“Nice hotel, points off for misleading advertising and poor access”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 9, 2011

The hotel itself is beautiful, luxurious, and tastefully appointed. It's nice to have A/C because street noise in Trani can be a problem with the windows open. There are tourists out til late at night and there is music playing from some of the cafes past midnight. The breakfast was the best we had during a 10 day sojourn through Puglia and Basilicata.

I took two stars off for this review. The worst offense was advertising this as a "courtyard" room. Ok, so I won't see the bay. However, our view looked out over a narrow alley where we were treated to some seedy-looking balconies with laundry hanging out to dry. This is not a "courtyard" room, this is an "alley" room. The man who helped us bring our bags up to the room joked that it would be ok because we'd be able to get the delicious smells of spaghetti cooking. I didn't find this amusing.

Secondly, it is very hard to find the place. The piazza in front of the hotel is being renovated so the front entrance is blocked off. We circled around Trani a while and found the back entrance, which was locked. We rang the bell but there was no answer. Finally we parked the car and walked up to the front entrance.

To his credit the man at the desk was very apologetic. He walked back to my car with me and guided me around a maze of streets that got us to the front door. You would not find this yourself since the street is designated as no thoroughfare, but apparently the hotel is allowed access. I think the hotel should do something help its guests find the place or at least warn them about this when they book a room.

They have free wifi internet access but I found it spotty and slow.

So IF you can find it and IF you don't get steered to a room that overlooks an alley - with or without spaghetti smells - this could be a nice place to stay.

Room Tip: Don't get the courtyard room.

This hotel was very hard to find. It has no signage on the outside of the resort, one sign on a corner as you are heading down towards the resort. Apparently because its historical they are not aloud to have signage on the walls, they could use free standing signs. The owner/manager is a very rude man, we asked if there was airconditioning, which there isn't but he said 'what now' as if we'd been complaining heaps, we had only just arrived. European breakfast included but not a lot to choose from. A roof top restaurant was still be built while we were there. Other than that it is a loverly boutique resort, the rooms are spacious and very clean. They don't have internet but will loan you a laptop at no cost. The town itself is very pictureque, lots of history but you can get lost in the narrow one way streets. There ae plenty of restaurants but be prepared to eat late as a lot don't serve dinner until 9pm onwards.
