First off, keep in mind this is one of only a couple places in the Boston area where you can get a room for less than $100 a night unless you want to stay at a hostel. So don't go in with any high expectations and you won't be disappointed.

For the past couple years, my family has stayed here whenever we're in town for Red Sox games. It's about a 10 minute walk or a short drive (recommended) to the Alewife T station which is really convenient. And the hotel also has a shuttle service to/from the station that runs during the day.

While the location may look a bit sketchy - sandwiched between a bowling alley/nightclub and a burned out warehouse - the hotel feels safe. The first time I stayed here, our room was still getting cleaned so we were promptly switched to another room, no problems.

The decor definitely looks outdated - some of the bathrooms have bright blue color schemes, others are pink, others are cream-toned - but you can expect to find basic amenities such as a mini-fridge and microwave, shampoo/lotion/soap basket, and cable TV. There is also a continental breakfast in the lobby each morning (toast, bagels, fruit, coffee, tea).

My mother was a bit skeptical of the place. Always the germaphobe, the first thing she did on our first stay was bust out her canister of Clorox wipes and went to town wiping down all the surfaces in the bathroom. To her surprise, the bathroom was quite clean and she's no longer afraid of this hotel.

I'm glad I didn't read the other reviews of this hotel before I first stayed there or I might have been scared away. I noticed no problems with bugs, rodents, etc. as others have mentioned. The rooms I have stayed in have always been clean, pest-free, and comfortable, and the front desk folks have always been pleasant. I've stayed at some pretty luxurious hotels - this is not one of them. But don't hold the against the place - just remember it's one of the cheapest in the area and you need to keep that in mind when you stay here.

Stay away from this motel. It's terrible. Rooms aren't clean. Bugs crawling. Bathroom's dirty. I've stayed at some low price motels before, but this one tops as the WORST. Stay away from this motel folks. You can do so much better elsewhere.

“nightmare hotel”

we found this hotel on the MIT website as a suggested place to stay when visiting the school. I have since emailed MIT to suggest they remove this hotel. I called the hotel directly to book a room and had a confirmation number. I was very clear with the man I spoke to explaining we were visiting a college with my son. When we arrived at the hotel we were charged more than quoted. It was late at night so we decided to check in and deal with the problem in the am. The room we were given was dirty, in poor repair and had heat that would not turn off. We had to sleep with our window open which was difficult due to the highway o/s the window. Also this hotel is sandwiched between a bowling alley/bar and an abandoned bldg that is boarded up. The location was good mapwise but when you saw men hanging outside the boarded up bldg and heard noise from th bowling alley/bar you realize it's better to be out further. The staff was rude both the woman who checked us in and the woman the next morning who would not help us with the room rate. We were suppose to stay 3 mights and left after 1. The staff kept insisting that the rate I was given over the phone was a AAA rate but I never mentioned AAA to the man who made me the reservation because I do not have a AAA membership. We moved to the Holiday Inn in cambridge to a clean reasonably priced room with a really nice continental breakfast. In conclusion if you are thinking of this hotel.. DON'T STAY HERE!!!!!

Upon arriving at this "hotel," located off the side of the highway, we saw a herse pull up beside our car. This was a little odd, so we started reading reviews of the hotel online, before checking in. We did not like what we read, but figured that we could survive one night. however, we overheard the people working there talking about a robbery and murder. And that's when the herse drove to the back.... and eventually left. We stayed about thirty whole minutes, sitting in our room with a couple insect guests finding a way out of the hotel. We decided to spend the night at a relatives house. Overall it was a very bad experienced and our teenaged daughter was extremely frightened. Not recomended at all, there is a good reason why their prices have dropped.

The website directions coming off Mass Ave (from Harvard) are confusing! However, I wish we hadn't found the place. We checked in about 10pm, and there wasn't a ground floor room, despite having requested one when booking. (Disabled guest).
The desk clerk gave us his room (?) which I appreciated, but it was the first one in the hallway (Room 103). You could hear every noise in the lobby, especially when the door to the lobby was propped open in the morning at 6am to run the extension cords for the coffee pot and 'continental breakfast", and of course, every booming voiced guest coming for breakfast.
The bathroom floor was pitted and filled with cigarette burns. The bright blue toliet and sink were dingy. The scratchy blanket also had cigarette burn holes in it. I don't expect a lot for this price range as far as amenities go, but I did expect clean. I didn't find it here. The wi-fi access, which had made us pick this place, was spotty and kept going in and out. Ours was just a two night stay, so the fridge and microwave wasn't a big need, but they were noisy. On one side of the motel is a boarded up building, a closed factory? maybe, and the otherside boarders a bowling alley parking lot, which stays open late and has NOISY patrons.
Our student has another year and a half at school, so we'll be looking all over Cambridge for another inexpensive but CLEAN place to stay.
