“Superlative”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 31, 2014

This place manages to be grand without ever being stuffy. Have stayed here many times over the years and the service has always been cheerful and efficient. The rooms are spacious and clean, the location is near - but not too near - Harvard Square. Those working the valet parking are especially cordial and speedy and the check in staff very pleasant. The beds are large and comfortable. And while the breakfast on the sixth floor is rather dull, the Commander more than makes up for that in its celebratory tone. The welcomes are genuine and the value is good.
I wholeheartedly recommend

Room Tip: Book early - the staff loves this and the chances of a larger room increase

We stayed 3 nights for our son's Harvard Law School Graduation. The hotel was amazing with all the extra attention to making us feel extra special. Every time we arrived back from a school event, there was something special, like fancy Hors d'Oeuvres, champagne, personal photos with a "live" statue of John Harvard, then photo mugs & pictures to take home. Even returning on the last night, there was a copy of "Oh the places you can go" by Dr. Seuss for our graduate on the bed. Towels to wipe rain soaked chairs were provided as we went to school events, as well as water bottles!!!

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet room.We did & were happy to be in a room on a fairly quiet back street in Cambri...

Wowee this hotel was the best place to stay. The staff was helpful, friendly and professional . The rooms were clean, extra chairs, great room attendant. The breakfast buffet was exceptional with an omelette chefs. The dinner menu was creative with a well balanced wine list to accompany the dinners or appetizers. Woweeeeeeeeee super place to stay.

Who said the ribs are only good in the south.Hooray for good food in the north. Great food Great service in a beautiful hotel. The soft shell crab made me feel like I was on the banks of Maryland with my crab nets they were so fresh. Adriana, our server was so professional. The wine list was full of delightful surprises. Dear kathy h,

I was delighted to read that you loved the ribs in our restaurant, Nubar. Our chef loves the new smoker in the kitchen and has done a great job creating delicious dishes. Thank you for recognizing Adriana, we agree she is a gem.

We look forward to your return.

This is in a great location near Harvard Square and a short walk to the T for easy sightseeing. The pillows in the room were two different thicknesses so you could pick which one suited you better (big plus for me). The staff at breakfast was good. We had a room on the front and it was a little noisy during the day but was quiet enough at night to not disturb my sleep. One minor oddity was that when you signed up for their 'green' program to not change your towels every day apparently that also means they don't take out your trash every day either (first time I have seen this in a Sheraton)

Dear Don P,

Thank you for your online review of our hotel. I'm glad to read that our location worked well for your needs and that our staff was attentive to your needs. It's also great to hear that you liked that we have 2 kinds of pillows on our Sheraton Sweet Sleeper beds. As for our Make a Green Choice program, opting into the program indicates you would like to forego housekeeping service in exchange for food and beverage credit or SPG points.

We look forward to welcoming you back the next time you are in town.

The Sheraton Commander is conveniently located close to Harvard Square. There is a bit of "old world" ambience instead of the standardized cookie cutter feel the major chains usually provide. It is not inexpensive, but our small room was clean and mostly comfortable. There were a number of incongruities such as a great magnifying mirror, but very low light level to use it with and a great energy conservation program involving foregoing daily towel changes, but no towel racks on which to hang the towels to dry for the next day. Some of the elevators are European-style tiny, barely big enough for two people and two roller bags. The restaurant and bar have been modernized and are comfortable, well-executed, but expensive. For most meals and drinks, outside options provide better value. Valet parking is convenient, but again, expensive. It is a major metropolitan city! The staff were the best part of the hotel, always friendly and helpful. Even the other guests were friendly! You will enjoy your stay as long as you prepare for the expense.

5 minute walk to Harvard yard and Harvard square. Stayed every year for my daughters college experience. Now here for graduation. Staff is wonderful. Rooms on the smaller side since older hotel. Best place to stay (an get SPG points) for Harvard.
