“Hotel Room with No Bed!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed July 18, 2013

I am at the Royal Sonesta right now. They gave me a room without a bed and when I asked to be moved to a different room, they said nothing is available. I have to sleep on a pull-out sofa, with the metal frame poking through the thin mattress. This is unbelievable!

this hotel''s main selling point would be its warm , friendly and efficient staff who are consistent throughout. we had a wonderful 5 nights here and being a family of 5, this had something for all of us. the location is perfect in summer time, especially if you get a river view room..
it is very close to the T and within easy walking distance to the science museum.
cleanliness is always top of my list and this hotel didn't disappoint!
front of house staff are excellent , especially Michael Murphy at the front desk who went beyond the call of duty to be helpful, by researching where my husband could watch a sporting fixture which was happening in Ireland, and sending us directions on how to get there - this was such a nice touch!

A nice setting which, unfortunately is neither in Boston or Cambridge! No shuttle bus so expect to cab or walk. Good rooms with good wifi let down by no tea and coffee and poor air con. Friendly staff albeit porters are rather expectant in carrying your bags 15 yards to the front desk! Worth considering but this has been the least favourable of the 4 hotels we have stayed in on this trip.

We usually stay at Hilton or Marriott but found a good deal on this one with CAA so took it. View of river is great and there are running trails along the water out front. Shopping mall across the street with lots of restaurants and 5 minute walk to T. Took about 15 minutes total to get to Quincy Market. Were told a cab would be $15 - $20 but stuck with T. Only complaint would be slow/busy elevator but that's not exactly something that can be fixed and it hardly affected the stay. Service was great as well. Nice place to stay and very handy to downtown. Highly recommend it.

Room Tip: Lower floor so you can avoid elevator waits if you can take stairs.

Best overnight we have ever had. My son and I stayed at the hotel this weekend while we were at a Lacrosse tournament. We were really just looking for a place to lay our heads between games but got much more than we ever expected. We checked in so quickly and easily and got excellent tips and ideas from our host on what we could do for a few hours. My son, 12, was engaged from the get go. Reception gave us a scratch ticket and we received a free appetizer and 15% off at the Art Bar. Good timing because we were starved after being at Harvard Stadium all day. We ran up to the room, got side tracked by the amazing view of the Charles River, and made our way down to the cafe. We sat outside and enjoyed watching boats go by and a couple of friendly birds fluttering around. My son got the jumbo shrimp and the chilled noodles, I got the ArtBar Burger which was to die for. Not only was everything delicious and fresh, but it was artfully arranged. Service was above and beyond exceptional.
After a leisurely lunch, my son decided to to the scavenger hunt the hotel offers. He had a blast exploring the hotel and asking the staff questions which they were more than happy to answer. What a great way to get to know everyone. The artwork around the hotel is beautiful and most of them are not replicas, but originals. That saved us a trip to the museum. After about 20 minutes my son got a cute gift for finishing the hunt successfully.
We spent some more time in the room deciding what to do next. The hotel supplied us with an extensive list of activities going on over the weekend so it was nice after a long day to just choose what to do. I really wanted to go on the boat cruise down the river but my son wanted to go to the Cambridgeside Galleria and scope it out. It was directly across the street so a nice easy walk. The place was packed (Saturday night) but it gave you a great taste of the city bustle. After walking from end to end and floor to floor, with purchases in tow, we stopped off at Cheesecake Factory for a quick slice before wandering back across the street.
Back in the room we chose to head down to the pool. It was so nice. It wasn't your typical cramped and so humid you can't breathe pool that you expect in a city hotel. It is much larger than I would have expected. Mostly adults in the pool but a few kids that were great. No splashing or being obnoxious. I wanted to stay for the movie they were having because you actually get to watch it from in the pool. It was a cute rated G movie that everyone would enjoy but my son was getting tired and was dying to try room service.
Great room service. It was quick and the food was delicious. We got popcorn, a gourmet cheese and fruit platter and some still and sparkling Voss. While we waited for the food, we took amazing pictures of the ever changing view. The city lights were just coming on and it was stunning. I could have looked out our window all night long but we chose a movie instead.
There was a wedding reception below our window but we had the window open all night long and the group was not loud at all. They probably were, but the noise just got swept out to the river.
The room was very spacious and so clean. I guess I should have expected that from a 4 Star Hotel, but these days you just don't know who keeps those standards. The Royal Sonesta felt like a 5 Star from start to finish.
After an great nights sleep, we had the buffet breakfast before heading back to Harvard (5 minute drive). The food was again delicious, hot and fresh with a great variety. I have never seen so many danish.
Check out was just as quick as check in. We had such a great time that I am already planning a trip back with my daughter for a girl's weekend. Thank you to the entire staff for making, what was supposed to be just a place to lay our heads, the best part of our trip.

My wife and I visited Boston for the first time and lucked upon this hotel. We arrived early (around 11:00am) and stopped in to the hotel to see if we could park our vehicle in the garage while we waited for the 3:00 check in. I was greeted by Asuka at the front desk. She was awesome! We not only were able to park our vehicle in the garage, she was able to get us an early check in to a great room with a view of the river and downtown. Asuka was very professional, courteous and accommodating. Our entire experience was incredible. We HIGHLY recommend this hotel. Thanks Asuka!

Room Tip: FYI, there are suites available that are considered a down grade because there is no actual bed, onl...

Room had a great view of the river and was updated/clean. The major downside is that the only free shuttle is to MIT. This hotel needs to offer a free shuttle to one or two tourist destinations. I spent A LOT of money on taxis since this hotel isn't close to the tourist attractions. Again, great hotel but due to the location, I won't be staying here again -- too expensive with all the taxi rides.
