“Nice but Noisy”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 15, 2008

If you're a heavy sleeper, or own a pair of decent ear plugs: Royal Sonesta Boston is the place for you.

I enjoyed my room, the bar, the service, and the proximity to all the places I needed to go, but the walls were just too thin. Both mornings I awoke to foot traffic in the hall at 7 AM.

TL;DR, Stay here and spend your days feeling exhausted; otherwise it's a good deal.

My wife and I stayed in the Sonesta from 4/24 to 4/27 for our anniversary and first trip to Boston. We made the right choice!

The hotel is clean and all of the staff were quick to help us with anything we needed, whether it be directions, a wake up call, whatever. All of the staff was friendly and they were almost always the first to greet us with a "hello" wherever we went.

Upon checking into the hotel, we requested a higher floor, quiet room not near an elevator with a partial river view (we booked for a Cambridge-side room). The staff accommodated us on ever mark.

Perhaps my favorite feature with the Sonesta is it's location. It is only a very short walk to the Lechmere station (T Green Line) and the Galleria Mall is directly across the street from the hotel. This is incredibly convenient.

The pool and hot tub was also an added plus. After a day of walking the Freedom Trail and all those steps at the Bunker Hill Monument, the hot tub was just what the doctor ordered.

Parking is a bit pricey so be prepared. I think it was about $28 per day, but that is to be expected in the area.

I would without hesitation recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the Boston-Cambridge area. It was a perfect stay.

Very nice room with spectacular views of the river. Easy walk to main tourist attractions in Boston, and near multipe T stops. Room was nice, but no towel racks, which was odd. We had towels draped all over the bathroom, which doesn't fit with the "save a towel and save water" campaign. Went to Dante's (one of the hotel restaurants) for dinner one evening, we waited about 10 minutes for a table to be set up outside. When we arrived on the patio, there were multiple empty tables so I don't know why there was a delay. I didn't find the menu very appealing. One pasta dish actually listed "brown meat" as an ingredient. Other than that, I liked this hotel very much

I had a wonderful stay at the Royal Sonesta Boston. The view from my room was stunning and overlooked the Charles River into Boston. A quick cab ride and you are right in downtown Boston so the location couldn't be better and the price is right. There is a complex of shops and restaurants across the street and the in-hotel restaurant, Dante's was great for breakfast. The lobby is somehow infused with a very fresh, clean, relaxing smell which instantly puts you in a great frame of mind. The room is very well equipped and I loved the plasma flat screen tv in my room. As a business traveler, I appreciated the desk set up and the fact that there were two office chairs for collaboration with teammates. I also enjoyed having 2 phones (including one cordless phone). Overall, I would highly recommend this for business and leisure travelers. I was hesitant to stay in Cambridge, but I'm so glad I did- it's beautiful and just a hop away from downtown for a more affordable price!

This hotel, as others have said, is right across the street from the Cambridgeside Galleria Mall...and the Cheesecake Factory...so plenty of shopping and good food. Also only a short walk from the Science Museum and green line T-stop. Parking is 27.00 a night...a bit pricey. The rooms are clean and updated. The hotel has 2 places to eat inside, but they add a 20% gratuity to your food bill "for your convenience" and offer very poor service. It is unfortunate that a nice hotel can't also have a satisfactory wait staff. We ate breakfast there on our first day. It was a little pricey, but we were willing to pay more for good food. Our drinks were gone before our food arrived, and throughout the meal, our waiter did not once come back to our table to ask if we needed anything or refill our coffee. We sat at the table finished for 10 minutes and finally had to flag him down to bring us the check. Definitely NOT service worthy of a 20% tip! Overall, the hotel was a great place to stay, I just wouldn't bother to eat there with all of the other above average choices in Boston.

This is a great place and convenient to the Museum of Science. It's right around the corner from the museum; is located right on the Charles River, where you can walk around and there are great restaurants nearby. We had children with us so we ordered pizza to be delivered. No complaints! The pool/spa area is awesome! The hotel staff is very friendly and cookies and milk awaited us upon our return from the science museum. What a great surprise after a day of walking. It gave me a few minutes of peace and quiet while the kids happily ate away discussing their day.

We stayed at the Cambridge Royal Sonesta for two weekend nights. We were on the 4th floor in the West tower. We really enjoyed our stay. The hotel is very sleek & modern with some stunning views of Boston across the river. Great location too! Easy walk to the Science Museum. If you want to really explore Boston & Cambridge the MBTA stop is an easy walk as well. Our room was very nicely equipped & maintained. Similar room décor, sleek & modern, to the common areas of the hotel. The bathroom was nicely appointed as well with some wonderful shampoo, lotion & soap.

My only two “complaints” about the hotel would be that the room was lacking a comfortable chair. There were two desk/work type ergonomic chairs in the room but not a nice comfortable easy chair. Also, we had a lot of hallway noise in the room as well as noise from adjoining rooms. It was not bothersome to us but worth a mention as it could be a bother to a light sleeper.

I would stay at this hotel again and I would recommend it to family & friends. The location is super. The hotel is in top notch shape. The staff was very friendly & accommodating. A very pleasant visit!
