“Very nice hotel with spacious rooms”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 19, 2013

Overall this is a very nice hotel. It is very business oriented but is also family friendly. Last time I stayed I got a room facing the Charles river with great views of Boston. The hotel is located right across MIT and is perfectly located for walks/jogs along the river or into Boston.
There is also a T station right outside the back entrance which takes you anywhere in Boston.

Room Tip: Try to get a room overlooking the Charles river and Boston.

This was the hotel that a number of the guest where staying. I was surprised that they did not try and put us all on one or 2 floor. We where spread out from 16th to 26th floor. We don't normally stay at a Marriott but this just seemed easier. We where within walking distance to the wedding and several restaurant, and pubs. Parking is at a premium in this area. Charge for Valet parking is 35 but that allows you to take your vehicle in and out during the day. There is parking next door for $30 as day ($30 charge is at 4 hours) but if you take your vehicle out at all the Valet is cheaper. Was disappointed that there was a charge for internet however managed to find a free on but it only worked sitting next to the window. Lovely 4th floor roof top garden. Price with CAA discount was reasonable. T station is just across the street but on this weekend they where doing repairs so free shuttle bus service was provided.

Green Features: Recycling containers provided in room however was not the standard blue colour.

Dianne,
Thank you very much for choosing to stay at the Boston Marriott Cambridge. I am very happy that you enjoyed your visit. Our location and service make us a very popular hotel in Cambridge and with the T being so close to us, getting around Boston and the Cambridge area is very easy.
I was pleased to read your comments about the services we offer and wanted you to know that we do offer free internet in our lobby, business center and Champions restaurant.

I came back to the MIT Cambridge Marriott 30 years after MIT. It is in excellent condition. The rooms and nicely appointed and in good shape. The view from the room was amazing. The neighborhood is fantastic just like before. The staff was terrific. Was even invited to a wine receiption in the presidential suite. The staff hosting that were terrrific, too. Top marks. Well done.

Room Tip: River view

Marriott Cambridge -Nice views...better on the Southside (view of the Charles River) if you can get them. Concierge here very very nice. Blonde lady...I think Lisa, was awesome. Every recommendation was spot on. Easy to get around...free shuttle to Cambridge mall from Kendall square and hotel sits on a T line (subway)! Great! Just two stops from the Commons in Boston and two from Harvard Square. The breakfast was nice...one morning we did the concierge floor and the next we did a meeting prepared breakfast. Naked beverage smoothies ...red bull. Very creative. I needed both dry cleaning service and to do laundry. Dry cleaning was quick ..same day returned and they have a free washer dryer on the 5th floor. Even gave me some free tide detergent at the front desk! Champions and Starbucks in the lobby area. Hotel sits in Kendall square. Several nice restaurants within walking distance. We enjoyed Fuji Sushi one night. Valet parking was easy. Internet free if Rewards member, decent reception- not great, but better than most big hotels. God place to stay to visit the area. We were there for a meeting also and it was catered in Southern Style....nice, polite and so friendly.

Room Tip: View on water side of the Charles River most scenic!

Though not in a walk conducive neighborhood w charm, has terrific location if using T to get to Boston or Central/Harvard Sqs. Has all you need: well set up room for working; comfortable bed; modern bath; direct garage access from hotel; competent and helpful staff, always a plus.

Champions is not my type of restaurant but was fine for breakfast and drinks for my husband. There was at least one large group staying and that can overtake the lobby, but lobby areas are never have enough seating/lounging areas so not a specific complaint. Saw lots of families with kids so imagine it would be good hotel for that.

Current construction around hotel plus repair work on Longfellow Bridge make driving a challenge. Best not to have a car in any case.

Room Tip: Corner rooms looking toward river are very sunny and have views, probably have to go up above 10th f...

Location is very good visiting Boston - Red Line "T" station for Kendall Square outside rear of property. We took the Old Town Trolley Tour, which also stops out back on Main Street. (Note: On weekends for next year or so, Red Line closed on weekends due to construction - shuttle buses out back take you to Park Street station.) Check-in parking a bit tight due to street construction. Might as well use the $ 35/day valet parking, since self-park down the block without in/out privileges is $ 30. Front desk and concierge staff very helpful, and lobby is very nice to sit in, and opens to rear pavilion, where you can also sit. Rooms very nicely furnished, and with a King room, there is a small sofa (can't watch TV from it, as it is around a corner.) Useful desk area, though I didn't use in room Wi-Fi @ $ 11.95/day - good down to the lobby where it is free. (Hey Marriott, come on - throw us a freebie, and just raise the price of the water in the room to $ 5.95 from $ 4.95 (another annoying charge which never ceases to amaze me.)) Room was exceptionally clean, bathroom had nice tiled floors and regular sized tub. Lots of windows, which were in corner, and room seemed bright during day and good lighting for reading at night. Bed was very comfortable, quality bed covering, and enough pillows provided to create you own pyramid. Nice sized closet, dressing area outside bathroom. Room A/C worked well, adjustable, and was quiet - as was the hotel itself. Indoor pool looked nice, though did not use. Lobby, hallways, stairways all spotlessly clean. In short a very classy business-type hotel, but great for families too. Place seemed very busy on a summer weekend, but efficient and professional staff and good hotel design did not make it seem crowded.

Starbucks in lobby for those who like strong, burnt tasting coffee.

What I would recommend, especially those with families, is the Champions Sports Bar/Restaurant on the premises. We had a party of eleven on a Saturday night, and no problem getting a 7:30 reservation (place was pretty empty.) As we had a mixed crowd (picky kids, finicky grandparents), the varied menu had something for everyone. The portions were pretty large (the cheesey waffle fry appetizer platter for the non-calorie conscience crowd weighed about 10 pounds, was very good, and easily serves eleven.) The burger and sandwich plates were large, as well as the salads - and everything was fresh and expertly prepared. I had the braised short ribs - soft, tender, and tasty, and others had the broiled fish (artic char) - said it compared well to the top seafood restaurants. Prices were very reasonable too. My only minor criticism is that restaurant, though spotlessly clean and freshly decorated, kind of reminded me of an "IHOP" Restaurant per the decor of the seats and tables in the main area. (Connected bar area was much nicer looking - can eat outside as well.) Not the top restaurant in town - but if you are staying at the hotel and don't feel like tramping to downtown Boston, especially if you have kids, excellent choice. A very pleasant surprise and great value!

Room Tip: Rooms on the Broadway side (front) are probably quieter, though I'm sure better views on the Mai...

First time in Cambridge, spent 2 nights. Location was perfect for us, the T stop was super convenient. Room was accomodating, VIP lounge was great, esp. in the morning. All our requests were taken care of. Tom the bellman gave us some very helpful tips about the area and directions. Johnny (concierge) was awesome, did a great job taking care of us. Had great suggestions for dinning and we had some very yummy meals.
Thanks to the great staff of this hotel, we really had a great trip and got to enjoy the Cambridge/Boston area. We look forward to visiting again soon and would definitely come back to Boston Marriott Cambridge.
