“Confirming 2012 and 2013 ratings”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 30, 2014

Let us be clear: this is not a resort or 5 star hotel and does not pretend to. But it is run smartly and provides an overnight stay in a clean, safe ,convenient and efficient manner. Yes it does accept third party reservations, in this case through accumulated points on an arline. Yes it accepts dogs , in this case a 14-year old poodle, and makes no fuss about it ($20 surcharge) . I do object to a parking surcharge which comes as a compete and dishonest surprise ($12 surcharge). But the good service, good breakfast, good proximity to a dog-loving space next door , called the Kingsley citypark, outweigh inconveniences. So, the 4.5 rating is solid, but I'm not sure that the heavy Trip Advisor rarings shown in halls and the Trip Advisor image book in the room are such a good idea because that sets a high standard for the establishment and Trip Advisor's independence may suffer if bad ratings bring down this hotel site and its silent partner, Trip Advisor.

This was perfect for our needs of our trip. The room, bathroom & lobby were very clean. The staff was extremely helpful & accommodating to our needs. They went above & beyond. The bed was not the most comfortable, but it wasn't terrible. The pillows were not comfortable, but I didn't request any replacements or extra pillows.

Really?!?!? At over $200 a night and boasting easy access to the traffic circle out front and not much else, one would think that this property would work hard to entice visitors to come back. Not so much. Everything was in decent working order but slightly dirty. We were also charged $12 for parking in an unrestricted public access parking lot. The fixtures were in working order but most of my college apartments had nicer bathrooms. Honestly though, the biggest downside was the manager.

We entered our second floor room to find scaffolding directly out the window that overlooks the cinder block wall of the whole foods next door. At 9am we were roused from a reasonably comfortable sleep in a decent bed by workers talking and running a winch that raised and lowered the scaffolding literally right outside of our window. In order to not be leered at we had to keep our blinds drawn. Not exactly a favored way to greet the day.

Upon checking out we asked if we might be credited for the parking considering the scaffolding issue we experienced. The pleasant desk clerk had to ask for the not so pleasant manager's approval. He said grumpily said "wait a minute" from his desk just out of sight when the desk clerk asked for assistance. He made us all wait too long as he finished up whatever important business he was attending to. (I'm guessing it wasn't making his guests feel valued or welcome.) When he finally graced us all with his presence, the desk clerk explained the situation again, to which the manager simply stated. "I'll waive it THIS time." Mind you he neither made eye contact nor offered a "sorry for you inconvenience". In fact the only thing he added was "you need to understand that when you book with a third party website we charge for parking".

I have several problems with this. First, if you don't want people to book from third party websites then don't make rooms available on them. Getting pissy with your customers and charging them extra fees because they don't book a room in your preferred way is unacceptable. Secondly, as I explained to him, that wasn't what we were complaining about. There is a reasonable expectation for one paying almost $200 a night that there not be work happening on the property that wakes you up. I understand that work has to be done from time to time and guests will inevitably be inconvenienced in some way, but c'mon! Considering the property, you need to take care of your customers better than that.

So in short, we won't be back Mr. Manager so you don't have to worry about losing your $12 parking ripoff again.

Very nice clean hotel. Good selection of breakfast items. Handy hotel shuttle to Harvard Square with access to subway transit. Most of the front desk staff were friendly and helpful. Downside was $50 cab ride to the hotel from Logan airport but it was during rush hour. Nice lobby bar.

Cambridge is a few klms from the city centre but the Hotel provides a free hourly shuttle to the subway and Harvard Square. There are a few places to eat nearby but the Hotel also provides a meal service. One night when it was pouring with rain we just ate at the bar which was very good.
The subway system is excellent and quite cheap - $18 for a weekly pass, so that is the best way to get around.
Our room was a typical American hotel room with a king bed and a recliner chair. We found it quite clean and serviceable. The staff were excellent in helping us with attractions and places to eat. The breakfast buffet was the same each morning but was fine. The wifi was very quick and responsive.
the only problem we had was one night when we had eating in town and rang for the shuttle from Harvard Square they must have forgotten about us and we had to wait an extra 20 minutes in the freezing cold to be picked up. Boston is quite expensive so I think this hotel is probably good value in comparison to others

This hotel is not very convenient if you are going to visit Harvard, MIT or other schools. It is a dingey hotel behind a strip mall. Our room had a view of the parking lot and industrial buildings & they actually charge $12 per night for parking. Rooms and hotel are dark and smelly. Front hotel staff was rude. We reserved a room for 3 people and they gave us a room with 1 king bed. They don't have cots, we couldn't pay for an upgrade or second room so I ended up sleeping in a chair. Were considering going to another hotel but unfortunately prepaid so were stuck. Other 2 said the bed was hard so we all had back aches in the morning. Avoid this hotel at all costs!

The Hotel Tria is a great option for the Cambridge/Boston area. Very helpful and friendly staff while being modestly priced. Rooms are clean and beds comfortable. I stay with them all the time when traveling to Boston on business.
