“Great hotel for tourists and families”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 6, 2014

This is a very good hotel for the price - a great choice. It is in a great location to catch the hop on/hop off buses (the bus stop is literally 2 minutes walk) to see the sights and it is right next to a mall, with restaurants and a food court. This came in handy almost every day. The hotel has a very hip vibe, is clean and is an overall fun setting. The one thing I will say is that the beds in our room with two beds are on the smaller side - I think a full instead of a queen. It was fine for us but take note. The staff was friendly and as helpful as can be. There is not a business office, which was surprising, but the hotel staff is happy to scan, fax or print for you free of charge, which actually worked out better than if there was a business office and I had to pay for computer time, printing, etc.

Thanks for the lovely comments, I am so happy you had fun while with us. As for the business center, we are in the process of revamping so expect a new one later in the year but as you mentioned, the Front Desk is more than happy to help with printing, scanning and copying.

Thanks!

I was heading up to Maine for the summer with two dogs and stopped overnight at the Marlowe because they are pet friendly. The staff, each one of them, was exemplary and the property was spotless. I could write pages about how great everyone from the desk agents to the concierge to the valet parkers were but suffice it to say I will return there anytime I am in Boston, with or without pets! I don't know how they train the staff to be so friendly, attentive and detail oriented, but this Kimpton sure has me impressed with their superior service-oriented attitude and reasonable prices. Plus, this hotel is very well located for most anything in Boston, and the setting is peaceful with an attractive waterfront park right out the door.

We spent three days at the Marlowe on a recent trip to Boston and Cape Cod, and overall enjoyed it. The room was large, clean, and comfortable, and everything seemed new and up to date. We had a view out towards the Boston skyline, which was nice. The restaurant is closed while they renovate, but they do have breakfast in a conference room if you choose to eat at the hotel - the continental was included in our rate, or we would probably have chosen to eat out. The hotel is within reasonable walking distance to the Lechmere T stop, more or less across the street from the Science Museum, and adjacent to a mall. Service was friendly, but we did have one major issue that was not adequately addressed. On the Saturday night that we were there, there was a wedding reception at the hotel. When it ended at around 11:30, the hallway on the floor that we were staying on was suddenly full of a bunch of people yelling and laughing and running around, waking us from a sound sleep and making it impossible to get back to sleep. I called the front desk 3 times complaining - it was not until almost 1 am that the hallway quieted down. When checking out the next morning I again mentioned the issue, and all the desk clerk said was "Oh, the wedding party." Overall a pretty inadequate and disappointing response to the entire episode.

Hi there, thanks for the review and so sorry that you had some noisy neighbors during your visit, definitely not what we want for our guests. It sounds it could have been handled more to your liking and I will make sure to address that with the team here.

Thanks again for the feedback!

Went to Boston with one of my kids (13) and my dear wife mid-July. Just a few days to wander around and see the city. Very happy we did. Very happy we chose the Marlowe in Cambridge.

Location : top reason for evaluation. Not in the hart of tourist-country-downtown-Boston ! Being in Cambridge actually allowed us to discover a couple of nice joints to have very decent food. See Café at the Kendall (Hotel), Tatte Bakery for breakfast, Kika Tapas.

Cold : top reason for not giving a 5-star eval to this place (second reason is price, but that is Boston...).

Boy is it ever cold in this place !! Why on green Earth do US businesses, public places and all condition the air to be soooo cold ! Isn't there a tidy bit of intent to save a little energy south of the border ? Anyway...

Hotel was clean. Room was spacious. Staff was courteous. Trolley stop at the corner of the street. Science museum at walking distance. Free wine btw 5 and 6 in the main lobby bar + free coffee and flavoured water in the lobby—although hot chocolate would have been a better choice of beverage ;-)

All-in-all a recommended place. No hesitation.
Just don't forget to bring a sweater...

PS Take notice : wifi isn't free. An irritant in 2014.

Room Tip: There are rooms with a view on the garden side rather than the street side. Need to ask for !

Green Features: As noted above, I would strongly suggest to cut down dramatically on the AC. It would save energy and make guests much more confortable too...

Thanks for the feedback, especially about the staff and the location! I am sorry you found it to be cold in the hotel, these New England summers can be hazy hot and humid so we try to keep it as comfortable as possible for our guests. Rest assured, we have some really cool equipment (VFDs) on all of our HVAC systems to minimize the energy usage in the hotel. We are definitely committed to saving energy!

Thanks again for the comments

The service was great, the staff helpful, the room clean, etc., etc. Our biggest complain was some type of after-party in the room next to us on the second night. It had been a long day for us to begin with and having a gaggle of girls yaking all night was not pleasant. After a few bangs on the wall and a phone call (I asusme the room on the other side) they quieted down. I'd also have liked ot have known when I made the reservaiton that Bambara, the in-house restaurant was closed for renovaitons. While they accommodated guests in a meeting room on the second floor for breakfast, dinner was not really an option. I'm a big Kimpton fan and will continue to be one.

Oh no! I am so sorry the all 3 nights did not meet your expectations. I can't apologize enough for the behavior of another guests, we try our best to control it when it happens, but preventing the initial noise can be challenging. Thanks for your loyalty to Kimpton!

We stayed at The Marlowe as guests of a wedding. For a city hotel, it was very nice. The room had two double beds and was adequate for the four of us. The hotel was well situated; well placed for Cambridge shopping and walking by the river. It only took us about 30 minutes to walk across the river to Boston Commons. However, the photos on the website gave the impression that it was set in acreage of green. This wasn't so. There was a small garden that you could sit in but it was by a fairly noisy road. Unusually for American hotels, buffet breakfast was not available only a la carte menu. It was quite expensive to eat there. The staff were helpful. It was a good stay.

Room Tip: Hotel entrance is in a round, that could be rather noisy at night, as there was a smokers area. Our...

We love to go into the city. Our Daughters gave us a week-end at the Marlowe for our 35th anniversary. We got to use their kayaks, complimentary to guests, and kayaked down the Charles River. They also have bikes for guest use. I can't say enough about Rachel, Paul and the rest of the Staff at the Marlowe ! They not only remembered us from our last visit this spring, but they sent an amazing hand written card, with chocolate covered strawberries and champagne to our room for our anniversary ! They also gave us some great restaurant recommendations ! We can't wait until our next visit.

Room Tip: Our room had a great view of the Charles River !

Green Features: I did notice there were separate trash containers in the room for recyclables.
