“Good price with free parking, coffee/snacks, breakfast & Internet”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2012

Our room on the streetside of 7th floor was spotless with a very comfortable bed, flat panel TV and reliable wifi. We didn't have anyone overhead so it quiet and, while we could hear some street traffic it was neither loud enough nor heavy enough to keep up awake. The location was very convenient (walking distance to restaurants and river cruise at The Cambridgeside Galleria, walking/bike trails along the Charles River, and the green line of the T to get downtown. We used and AARP rate which was less than $300 per night (although with taxes our 2 night, mid-week stay ended up being around $635. Sounds high, I know, but was a lot less than other nearby hotels.) I thought the free, hot breakfast was good - clean, replenished frequently, convenient with plenty of seating (even had a brown bag to go option) - although the fare was pretty typical. Fresh decaf/regular/robust coffee, tea and hot chocolate were available 'round the clock in the lobby along with different snacks each day. The free Internet and especially the free parking made this a good overall value. The staff were friendly and efficient. The only flaw I might note is that the rugs seems a little dirty in the hallways when we checked in, but were cleaned the next day while we were out.

Room Tip: Nice view of the Boston skyline but don't expect a view of the river from the streetside of this...

I have stayed at many Hampton Inns before and rarely have a complaint about the chain. This location, however, had a few small problems but overall it was a decent stay. There must have been a flood on the second floor because our first room smelled like mildew - it was such a strong smell that we could smell it in the hallway when we walked by. After telling the receptionist, she told us to turn on the air conditioning and wait it out. I couldn't stand it, so I waited only five minutes and asked to switch rooms. She switched us to the room across the hall, but at most hotels, if they have inconvenienced you at all, they bring your new key you up to you, which didn't happen here. That's not a big deal, some hotels don't do that I guess. The hotel is a bit outdated. The fitness room was awful, breakfast could have gone a little later and there wasn't a fan in the bathroom. Otherwise, it was fine.

My wife and I came in for the Life is Good festival and found this Hampton Inn to be affordable, clean and what I'd expect for the price. Location felt a little sketchy on the surface, but being just a few minutes drive (or a few more walk) from some great places to eat (I highly recommend the white trash cheese dip at Bukowski Tavern) and a quick jaunt downtown it's actually very well situated.

I would NOT recommend renting a car. We stayed two nights and arrived back shortly after 10PM to zero parking in the garage. Created some frustration, but all in all the staff was friendly and helpful and this was just what I expected from a Hampton. No frills, but solid.

Way over priced for what you get. Rooms marginally ok...dated, loud air floor air conditioner units. Front desk staff cop an attitude. Never notified me of faxes, half of TV stations had no picture but had sound. Wort part was when I asked about a different room option, I was told I could cancel without a penalty & go somewhere else. Really?

I debated over this location and the chain hotel up the street but booked this one because I wanted the reward points. All in all a decent stay but next time we visit Boston I might be tempted to book elsewhere.

Pros
-Location to the T is ideal. It is half a block away and it's the end of the green line so it's not super busy with transfers. It's also a short walk to a grocery store and dunkin. We also appreciated the proximity to MIT. Getting to the red line is hassle so we just walked. It isn't the most attractive neighborhood but it's a brief walk.
-Free parking. We ditched the rental car before our stay but we had friends visiting during the day and let them use our free parking which worked out great.
-Clean and aside from the usual door slamming, quiet. The mattresses weren't the best ever but the most comfortable on our entire trip and perfectly acceptable. Although the pillows left something to be desired. The alarm clock had a sound machine feature which was nice.
-The front desk was more than helpful and were happy to hold onto our bags before and after check out.
-I wouldn't call the breakfast restaurant quality but we were able to fine enough items to keep us full until lunch.

Cons
-Seriously, why does hampton inn not invest in fans in the bathroom? It's so odd!! Also the door was too tight and would get stuck on the floor tiles. Best I could come up with is that it's a 100% privacy feature of absolutely no gap under the door but it made it annoying trying to close the door.
-We were early so we ditched the bags and went to lunch in North End. We picked up some desserts at Mikes Pastry only to come back to the hotel and realize that the rooms do not have a fridge. The lack of a fridge and microwave are literally the only reason why we probably won't be staying again.
-Some of the nice bathroom supplies from our previous stay in a Hampton Inn was missing in this one (qtips, shower cap, make up remover towel).
-Not a lot of decent food options in the immediate area (although there is a cheesecake factory within walking distance which made it extra frustrating that there wasn't a fridge or microwave so we couldn't take our leftovers). We opted to go to the North End the entire time.

Room Tip: The north point park a short walk and is an amazing find for those with kids. There are 3 separate...

Dear Jennifer R:

Thank you for your thorough review of our hotel. We appreciate you taking the time to tell others about your experiences.

We're glad you enjoyed your visit; and do apologize for the lack of refrigerators in our guest rooms. However, we do have a limited number of units available for guest use. Just check with our front desk the next time you visit. As for the bathroom fans, we do have them. However, they are air circulators and are on non-stop to circulate and cleanse the air.

We thank you again for your feedback and look forward to your return.

Sincerely,

Lisa M. O'Neil

First, the location is great. Easy to get to Boston, Cambridge and Somerville. Also close to I-93 and Route 1 so you can get around. Parking is free and included. Big plus and rare for Boston area. It's also walking distance to the Green Line. Probably closer to 20 minutes or more from the Red Line. But not too, too far.

Second, it's really nice. Very clean. Nothing fancy but definitely solid. There's laundry and dryer downstairs.

Third, free breakfast - like all Hamptons. Can't go wrong with that!

My only issue with them is the elevators (only 2) can be slow and they always stop on the Lobby level, even if you are headed to the garage. Seems to be built into the system. Other than that - it's great!

Dear Jorge M:

Thank you for taking the time to post your review. We truly appreciate it!

We're thrilled you enjoyed your stay with us; and do apologize for the frustration with our elevators. The elevator to/from the garage levels is programmed to stop at the lobby level in order to comply with local regulations.

We look forward to being your host should you travel to the Boston/Cambridge area.

This is a good hotel. There are no restaurants close with the exception of the Cambridge Galleria which is a 5 minute drive or a 15 minute walk.
Rooms are clean and solid, but not spectacular. Staff is very friendly.
The only drawback is the small parking spaces underground. Overall, a solid recommendation.
