Central Square is full of Indian restaurants, and Royal Bengal serves Indian food too. However, what you want to do is pay attention to the blue menu featuring Bengali specialities. That's why you came to this restaurant! My favorites: the smoked eggplant dish at the top of the menu, the shrimp in coconut sauce (flip the menu over), the shredded banana blossom, and the Bengali mashed potatoes. The flavors are slightly different from Indian ones, and wonderful. For dessert, skip the rice pudding (that is one area in which all the over Indian restaurants do a better job) and get the coconut crepes or kulfi (cardamom and pistachio ice cream). This restauarant is on the MIT edge of Cetral Square, and actually, it's easier to park there than in the heart of the square.
