“Nice Stay Ten Minutes From Central Boston”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 22, 2012

Flew out to Boston for a quick weekend away from home. I was looking for a hotel with a decent rate that was centrally located. Oh, and I was looking for ICH or Starwood properties, having recently given up on Hiltons. Based upon what was available I decided to take a chance on staying in Cambridge, at the LeMeridien. It didn't have the best rate but the rate/location/property mix was right for me.

We arrived into Boston/Logan about seven o'clock Friday night and headed, via taxi, directly to the LeMeridien Cambridge. We were immediately pleased with the property: it was comfortably elegant. The front desk staff were very welcoming and kind. Without requesing it, the front desk person recongnized me as Starwood Gold and said she was looking to see if there was an upgrade for me. There was.

The room was comfortably spacious. There was an entryway, a living room, and a separate bedroom. (I shouldn't have to list this rooms but, these days, a "suite" is often not really a suite.) Furnishings were modern and minimalist.

The bed slept comfortably and the room was quiet and there were no issues. The hotel is located very close to lots of restaurants and it's only a five-minute walk to the T and a ten-minute ride into Boston. Harvard is a twenty-minute walk in the other direction.

I was very pleased with my stay at the Le Meridian Cambridge and would recommend the property to other travelers.

We arrived on the 27th of December and departed on the 31st. There were 2 female front desk receptionist and she is very helpful. It is a very convenient location, close to MIT and T station, and there are a lot of restaurants around the area. It is very cheap for $15 per person per week to take the T transit, and only about 15-30 min away from any Boston downtown locations and attractions. If you needed food, there is a hugh supermarket right besides the hotel and the self parking is about $22 a night. Just remember not to purchase anything in the hotel room would be fine. There is no fridge for personal use. Hotel guests needed to use the room key to access the elevators which is a great feature.

The area was not that great, especially during the night time, despite we had walk around every night. There is a taxi station just across the street and you could pick up taxi easily.

The Chinese restaurant's (across the street) price was OK and the food were cooked with minimum oil and salt. A breakfast place called "Science" something's breakfast was nicely made.

We reserve a 2 double beds unit. The room was nicely decorated, with modern picture and unusal look furnitures (but not that comfortable). The high speed internet was free, and the internet speed was amazing, faster than any internet that we could get in Toronto Canada. The room and bathroom was quite small, there was not much room for us to walk around in the bedroom and have insufficient working area for 4 of us. Most of the time we needed to use the bed for reading instead. Our window was facing other office's windows, therefore, we have to close our drapes all the time. One complaint is that the comforter was very heavy and the beds are a bit too soft, we didn't slept very well for the nights.

On the first night, the bathroom was stucked and water came out of the toilet after my son pee. They sent someone quickly to clean up the mess. On the last day, the lamp of the bathroom was out and the bathroom was in dark. Besides that, the room was OK.

Overall, the 4* hotel was not perfect, not quite comparable to the 3.5* "Newport Historic hotel and suite" in Neport, RI. However, if you take we paid only $80/night to expedia (excluding parking), with such a convenient and quiet location, it was not a bad choice and it is in Cambridge, very close to the very expensive Boston. I will definitely back to this hotel again.

i wish i could write a good review for this place, but after moving rooms i still had sleepless nights.

pros:
- good location for cambridge/MIT
- pretty nice rooms and amenities
- supermarket next door
- front desk helped move me when i complained.
- price is cheap!

cons:
- had a connecting room where i could literally hear the people next door as if they're next to me. that and they like to wake up at 8am.
- moved rooms to one of the rare non-connecting rooms and had a strange faucet-opening sound every 2 minutes.

I agree with the majority of reviewers here. Very clean and comfortable; the rooms are well decorated, although possibly a little minimal. The only part of the room that wasn't quite up to par was the bathroom, which was more than adequate, but could use an upgrade - the tiles, etc. are very basic, as opposed to some other hotels of this caliber. But that is just nitpicking. Overall, this was a great place to stay. The staff was nice, and when I asked for an upgrade, they were able to accommodate us. Convenient location in the sense that it is close to trains and walking distance to central Cambridge. However, I do want to mention is that if I were coming to Boston as a regular tourist, I wouldn't necessarily stay in this location; I would stay in downtown Boston near Copley or something. The only reason to stay here as a regular tourist is if the hotels near Copley are fully booked or prohibitively more expensive. But I would not hesitate to stay here for any other reason!

Room Tip: Ask for a room upgrade if they are not too busy; they seemed willing to accommodate and the suites a...

My high school son and I stayed here in December for 4 days while he participated in an indoor track meet with his team at Harvard. The staff was very polite, helpful and accomodating, placed us on the upper SPG (Starwood Preferred) level of the hotel when we mentioned we were members. Our room was modern in style with very comfortable beds, flat screen TV, with a small but clean modern bathroom. Room was relatively quiet for a city hotel.

Great location with a Star Market next to the hotel, restaurants and cafes worth exploring around the corner and the MIT Musuem across the way (free entry when you show your hotel room key-card) which is worth visiting! Redline is down the street-used subway as sole transportation to Harvard and Boston to see the sights. Outside the taxi ride from and to the airport, we walked or took the subway everywhere....Will return to this hotel next year!

Room Tip: Stayed on the Starwood Hotels prefered guest level, highest floor in hotel. Very quiet and outside...

Stayed here for two nights in summer 2011. We enjoyed staying here as the rooms were clean and comfortable. There were no problems with customer service. It is also located in the heart of Cambridge with lots of options for eating and drinking. So, a safe and clean option but nothing about it particularly wowed us. But we would come back again.

Pros: Its location is best for us, also convenient with StarMarket on 3rd floor.
Most staff extremely helpful and courteous.

Cons:
- very slow Internet.
- Even with repeated stays,
we did not get upgraded until the 6th stay & had to ask for it.
During 7/2011 (4th stay in < 1 year), I asked for a larger room and the Front Desk staff said
"all the rooms are the same size" which is clearly NOT the case.
He was not helpful at all.
Hotel computer has all the stay history/frequency info, and repeat guests should
get auto upgrades/better accommodation!!!

Room Tip: Ask for a Corner Room: these are larger/2 window exposures, also a more spacious bathroom with a gla...
