Our extended family was in Cambridge to attend the MIT graduation of the son. We rented rooms 1,3.for 2 nights Nice, quiet place, a great location, a pleasant house but (i) there was no chance to reset the temperature of air-conditioning the the whole house - we were really cold during the night and even relaxing in jacuzzi was not a pleasure, (ii) in room 3 the ceiling window had no curtain - in the first night we got up early due to a strong morning sunlight, in other night almost whole night there was a thunderstorm, we could not sleep again due to lights of different nature. The rate was certainly too
high for even the extra-high season. I have a certain doubts to advice someone such a place to rent.

We have ordered a light-blocking shade for the skylight, which should eliminate the problem with the early morning light. We will also leave clearer instructions for operating the air conditioner. We wish this guest had told us about the temperature control problem so we could have helped while they were there.

The residence was very convenient and pleasantly homey. The location was great and it was quite inexpensive compared to Cambridge hotels, it was a much nicer experience than a 'generic' hotel without kitchen. The only problem was we couldn't turn the air conditioning off; it wasn't hot and it made a lot of unnecessary noise and even got too cold.

Our experience with this entire B&B network leaves much to be desired.

First, we rented a room in Charlestown which was described as a basement apartment. It turned out to be a moldy, cold, humid wine cellar-like accommodation with peeling paint, cracked floors, a dirty sofa, and a heating system that stunk and made noise when turned on.

To their credit, the B&B service gave us another room in Cambridge after coming over to see the basement apartment and agreeing it was not suitable due to mold conditions.

The Cambridge apartment was in a newly restored house, pretty much clean, and in a good location. But there was never a host present during our four day stay. We had to let ourselves in with a key hung on a lockbox. Not a very secure feeling. Nor was any kind of "breakfast" at this "bed & breakfast" even offered. Not even a cracker.

Also, the cabinets and drawers in this room were pretty much loaded with the owner's stuff, which doesn't make for a homey feeling when you're a guest and looking for places to store your own things.

The so-called common room, which was supposed to be for guests to relax, was stripped of its TV and cluttered with the owner's personal stuff, which also didn't make one feel very welcome in it.

The lack of a host also led to a problem with another guest one night when we came home late. Since there was no other car in the lot and the building was dark, we assumed we were the only ones in the building until a German tourist ran down from upstairs, angrily banging at our bedroom door to tell us we were talking too loud. If a host was minding the place, this might never have happened.

Although the bedroom looked clean on the surface, my wife happened to peek behind the bed one day and discovered an empty soda bottle and a candy wrapper, which suggests that the cleaning crew here is not all that thorough.

If we had to do it all over again, and we knew what we know now, we would have looked much harder for other accommodations. The B&B manager told us her buildings are great value for the price (upwards of $155 a night) considering that Boston is expensive; she also said that breakfast and a host on site weren't normally to be expected in her houses. But doesn't this defeat the very idea of a "bed & breakfast", and the kind of personal touch travelers expect of such accommodations?

PLEASE NOTE: The first part of this review pertains to a different property!

This guest was originally placed in an apartment based on the fact that they were looking for budget accommodations. The first property is described on our web site as a basement apartment with low ceilings, “ideal for the budget-conscious traveler.” When they arrived and were disappointed with the apartment, the agency owner went over to meet with them to discuss their concerns. The guest admitted that she had not read the full description of the property before making the reservation. However, the agency owner’s top priority is our guests’ satisfaction and she agreed to move them to Cambridge Vacation Rental Guest House immediately.

Cambridge Vacation Rental Guest House -- as the name implies – is a vacation rental, not a bed and breakfast. This is not a hosted property, which was clearly explained to these guests. When they moved to this property, the agency owner asked them to call her, which they did and told her everything was fine. We were understandably shocked to then read this review and disappointed that we were not given an opportunity to further assist them with their concerns during their stay.

We were in Cambridge on a househunting trip, and stayed at M807. It met our needs perfectly - was fairly close to the T, had parking included in the rate, a weekly rate, light cooking, laundry (since one of us was there a full week, this was helpful). Right down the street from Whole Foods, and other restaurants in Inman square, not too far from the Central Sq. t stop. Also only about a mile from Harvard, which was convenient as we had some business on campus.
The bedroom was well kept as was the house.
Only downside for us was that other guests went outside to the parking area to smoke frequently, leaving our rental car smokey in the mornings.

I stayed to the Cambridge Vacation Rental Guest House/ M807 for 1 week in room 3. Unfortunately, if I knew that would be like this I would not have made the reservation.the reasons are the following;
1) The room 3 is the one with less space and on the upper floor of the house where the seiling is not so tall.As a result of this no easyness to walk while even worst the weekend from April 30th to May 2nd and due to the very warm weather there was no ventilation and no air-conitioning so the temperature inside the room was very high without being able to do something since the owner has blocked the central air continioning from the base floor.
2) No notification was given to me when I made the reservation regarding this room that thre were 2 windows on the roof that could not being covered during the early monring hours so the sun was coming intothe room and we had to wake up from 05.00 am!!!
3) The TV in the base floor was more time off (as well as the internet) than on though it was supposed to work since the landlord seems that he sdoes not care about the house but simply how to get the money through wire.
4) And the best has been that the last 3 days the toilet had broken down and although I tried to fix it was not possible so I had to wake up with my wife early in the morning, go down to the base floor and go to the toilette there!!!

My overall recommendation is though the house has a good proximity to the Cmabridge area the rest is not good at all,

This is the top floor of a charming, renovated home and the wall on one side of the room is slanted. However, the ceilings are high and the room measures 14x12 – ample space for most. There are three windows that open and each have functioning, light-blocking shades.

There is a detailed welcome letter in each room for guests to read when they arrive. The letter includes instructions for the air conditioning and high speed internet. The air conditioning was not blocked and could have been turned on at any time. Most importantly, the letter includes contact information for the agency, should any problems arise during a guest’s stay. Had we known that there was a problem with the toilet, we would have sent someone immediately to fix it! We also could have walked the guest through the instructions for the air conditioning and high speed internet.

We felt like we were renting the whole home, since we had access to the modern kitchen and entire house. It is a few blocks away from the Central subway station. There were also a lot of restaurants and clubs very close by, so we could have enjoyed more the Cambridge area. There is a wholefoods market very near by, that was also helpful. Free parking.

This B&B ended up being a great place to stay while in town for the Boston Marathon. The house, the house-mates and the area all made for a great extended weekend.

The house was an easy 4-5 block way from the Central Square T stop in a nice, quiet neighborhood. It was cheap ($2/adult) and easy to catch the Silver Line bus from the Logan Airport and then transfer to the Red Line T train, even after our late arrival.

Both the shared and private rooms were spacious and nicely furnished. The decorations gave the place a cozy feel. We stayed in Room #1 which had nice wood floors, a marble tile bathroom with shower and jacuzzi, king size bed, couch and TV. The kitchen was nice to have as we were able to cook (and store) a small breakfast both mornings from food we purchased at the Whole Foods grocery store a couple blocks away. When we didn't eat in the kitchen we were able to pick from a diverse selection of restaurants and bars just a few blocks north of the house, near Prospect St and Cambridge St.

Due to some warmer weather before we arrived, the thermostat had been turned off and the place was quite chilly. The property management group sent out a service person to get the heater back on immediately, so it seems like any issue would be resolved in a timely and efficient manner.

I would definitely recommend this place to a friend and would most likely come back upon any future trips to Boston.
