“Magnificent waterfall”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2014 NEW

It's not one of the biggest or highest waterfalls in Iceland, but still, it demands your respect. Probably the way how everything is square about it - just a 60m cliff from which large amounts of water is coming.
If you have time, a trek up along the waterfalls and down to Þórsmörk (at least one day for each direction!) or to the Fimmvörðuháls eruption... or just a few kilometers along the waterfalls is highly recommended.

“Walk to the top!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 7, 2014 NEW

Great waterfall! It is definitely worth the effort to walk the (200?) stairs to the top, to see it from that vantage point.

“Climb to the top”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 2, 2014

This a powerful and beautiful waterfall and if you are able body you have to do the climb to the top otherwise you will only get half the experience. It starts of as a mud track but then turns into three flights of stairs. You will be puffed out but is totally worth it when you reach the balcony as the view of the country side is spectactular. If you are daring enough you can climb the step ladder that takes you over the fence and walk a mud trail that follows the river upstream for a bit. It's a deep gorge dotted with rocky islands and a smaller waterfall at the back. It too is a beautiful sight.

“Absolutely exhilarating!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 27, 2014

You may be tempted not to stop if you are doing the whole perimeter of the island, but you would be making a mistake. There is a little parking lot, a place to stop and grab a little bite and use the restroom, if you are looking for creature comforts. But you can walk right up to this beauty. It just thunders down the side of the mountain and washes into a stream ringed with wildflowers, like , it seems, in all of Iceland in the summer. The black rocks, mystical spray, and sweet smell of the falling water can hypnotize you. And possibly cause you to misplace your lens cap, which can be a bummer. You will need some good tread on your shoes for the higher areas that have a soil path, as well as some waterproof gear for yourself. It is a waterfall, after all. There is a trail that starts with steps and then you can follow up further to more and more beautiful, higher vantage points. It is worth the walk up, and if you are walking with a group, easy enough for everyone to catch up at certain camera worthy intervals. At what you might think is the top ( it is the closest you can get to the actual falls and still see them in all of their glory), there is a little promontory that is moss covered. To me, it looked like a "thumbs up". But my husband saw a face. The sun came out for us and we were able to spy a rainbow. It was so cool. It was almost little kid kind of fun to be so close to it and it felt like we had climbed it just in time. Above that, you can go further along a fairly gradual path, above the falls, and see the stream of water that tumbles down the top of the mountain to make such magic. It is not a difficult climb at all. It is raw Iceland, charming you every time you turn the corner.

“Got distracted”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 26, 2014

Driving from the westman islands to jokulsarlon and saw skogar on the side of the road. We couldn't help but stop. The cool thing is you can climb stairs to the top of the waterfall. Good stop for a little walk. Restroom and food are available. So glad we stopped!
