I decided to check out Iceland's 4 star hotel. The Hotel Ranga is near Hella and is very easy to get to. It is a very nice hotel situated near a salmon river and nothing else near by for total peace & quiet. The staff at this property was extremely nice & helpful! It is on the expensive side but is worth the stay.

Good facilities, some of the staff were excellent, others were worse than awful. Food was OK but should have been better but they had very a good wine selection. Hot tub was great (if a little too public). Excursions are easy to organise through reception (fantastic staff on reception) and wifi is free. The only problem we found was sadly a big one. For a top class hotel they had only two staff waiting on at dinner and it was clear they couldn't cope and one guy was very rude to us, he practically threw my dinner plate on the table. We thought we'd done something to offend him. They also had a policy of keeping your dinner wine away from your table. This is OK if you get a good waiter/waitress, but if not, you will never get your glass refilled. When I did ask for my glass to be refilled I had the feeling I was seen as an alcoholic and after having my dinner delivered in a an aggressive manor, I must admit, I was very upset by this and it ruined my experience of the hotel.
I don't believe in complaining at hotels, why should put myself in an uncomfortable position because the service is bad. I usually chose to make it anonymously via trip advisor and never return.
If the hotel management are reading this the rude waiter was in his mid 30s and wearing a suit on waiting on the 28th May 2009.

Fantastic lodging with a view of the excotic Icelandic nature. Short distance to many extrordinary sightseeings like the vulcano Hekla, the hot geysers, beautiful waterfalls, glaciers and the highlands which all are must sees if you're visiting this remarkable island. I spent a week at Rangá and recomend that as a minimum! So much to see!!

I stayed one night at their sister hotel, Highland, the nature reminds of something out of this planet, I heard a story about NASA testing their moonmobiles right here because of the rough environment.

First class cuisine, mixing international and traditional Icelandic flavours. The cosy bar on the top floor is a must if you enjoy inventive cocktails. I dare you to try the smoked Puffin! And I bet you won't find it elsewhere!!!

Hotel is nicely located between the many beautiful natural sites and the capital city. Service is wonderful and the menu is terrific. A exotic bland of Icelandic taste with a clean and fresh modern touch. Rooms are comfortable and roomy with a view to die for.
