“Wonderful!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 16, 2013

The owner very kindly picked up / dropped off 11 of us staying at the Northern Light Inn so that we could go to Salthusid for dinner.......at no cost! The venue was warm and inviting and the service was fantastic. I opted for the famous Salted Cod and it did not disappoint.....I would highly recommmend it! The food was beautifully presented and we had absolutely no complaints. We loved it so much that we tried to tip.....unware at the time that it is rude to tip in Iceland! If you are in the area of Grindavik this restaurant is an absolute must to visit.Thank you to the owener for making our experience so special.

“Great find!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 5, 2013

We took a drive around the south of the Reykjavensk peninsula and went into the town of Grindavik. After aimlessly driving around, we asked at at a bakery where a nice restaurant was, and were directed to the Salthusid. The place was great! The dining room was very warm and inviting with old photos and local artist's works on the walls. My wife was totally tickled by the candles burning in the the ladies room at 2:30. The food was very good and plentiful - we shared an order of fish and chips between two and were nicely filled. The proprietor was incredibly hospitable and friendly. I had a great conversation with him about his Icelandic horses (he has two), the annual spring and fall sheep drives and the fishing and salting industry that is the economic bedrock of the town. As we have found everywhere in Iceland, he was very proud of his country and very happy to talk about it. There are cool things to see nearby (bridge over two continents and the Gunnahver geothermal site) and this is a wonderful place to stop and enjoy a good Icelandic restaurant.

“Excellent!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 21, 2013

We ate at Salthusid twice while in Iceland. Food is fresh, expertly prepared, and portions are generous. The menu varies and there is always a variety of dishes. The Norwegian lobster appetizer is tops. I'm not much of a fish eater so I tried a chicken dish that was delicious. Because we came back a 2nd time the owner very generously gave us dessert on the house.
He is a wonderful host-friendly and attentive, as is the waitstaff. Will definitely go back on our next visit.

“Good service, nice, traditional food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 10, 2013

We dined here for several days in May 2011 - it is a family friendly, cosy place with good service. The meny isn't the most exiting, but the food is definetly tasty.

“stunning food quality and ambience best in Iceland”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 20, 2013

I took a group of 40 students and staff here last week. The food was superb, I have been travelling to Iceland for 8 years and it was by far the best food I have ever eaten. We had a buffet lunch of mushroom and bacon soup, broccoli soup with fresh bread (reg topped up), salad, cod gratin with vegetables, potatoes and the most delicious lamb i have ever eaten. The cabin has a lovely romantic feel to it and is on the new coastal road to south Iceland so perfectly situated near to Hveragerdi and Blue Lagoon. Torlakur made us a fantastic lunch that the students will never forget. Takk Fyrir.
