Told it was a must when visiting Reyjkavic we made the 45-60 minute bus trip to Blue Lagoon. The place itself is stunning, set in the middle of the lava fields that resembled a moonscape. Having paid almost 30 euros for the bus, the overpriced 30 euros entry fee was simply that and anything else cost extra, eg. skimpy towels 5 euros to hire! Staff were indifferent and handed us a wristband with no further instructions. The change rooms were appalling. In the women's area, the floors were swimming with water and naked women - no wonder with everyone directed to take a 'naked shower' before putting on their swimming costumes. You had to find a locker for personal items and clothing, use a chip in the wristband to lock and re-open the locker door and above all, remember the number to find it again. For some inexplicable reason, shoes had to be removed on entry and placed on a public rack along with everyone else's. Next step was to find your way through the corridors of open change rooms to the pool area, and try to find your partner who had undergone the same horrible experience in the men's area one floor above. Our wristbands would not clasp properly and we had to hold them in our hands while in the water fof fear of losing them and never retrieving our personal belongings. There was no place for leaving everyone's identical hired towels while in the water and we had to tie ours together for later identification. The water temperature was variable and the day was cold and exceptionally windy so we had to stay close to inlets for warmth and really couldn't swim. At the end, we had to endure the whole horrible experience of the change rooms again. No instructions from indifferent staff as we checked in our wristbands. By the way, don't even think of buying a snack or drink there - a total rip-off as was the whole experience. What should have been a great experience in an amazing setting was marred by a money grabbing organisation with poorly trained staff. Unless you want to see the place, stick with the local natural pools in Reyjkavic where you can enjoy the thermal waters for a small entry fee and not pay almost 30 euros to get out to Blue Lagoon.
