“Really nice”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 13, 2014

Route 66 is an older hotel. It was the original Holiday Inn, after all. For all that, it is a nice property. It is well kept up, clean, smells decent and so on. Our room with one double bed was big and comfortable. The sheets were clean and fresh and we had plenty of reasonable sized pillows for the two of us. Carpet was clean. The bathroom was cleaned and well stocked with shampoo and soap. Towel were plentiful, comfortable, clean and fresh.. Room was well kept and tastefully decorated.
Property was secure, door locked well. Parking lot was well kept.
The folks at reception polite and helpful.
And the fifties and Route 66 memorabilia was a nostalgic touch.
The Yesterdays restaurant was big and the young man who wanted on us was polite and efficient. Breakfast was tasty and reasonably priced.
This was our first time at this property, but we are already planning a family trip in 2015 and plan on staying here. It was a relaxing experience a ta motel conveniently right off the interstate. Price were very reasonable for the lovely experience we had staying here. Will definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: All rooms are nice.

As a child I remember the Route 66 as one of the original Holiday Inns with the great neon sign out side. Over the years the signs gone and the formerly exposed hallways have been enclosed to make it more seasonally friendly. The lobby is filled with memorabilia from the era when Route 66 was the way west. As most reviews mention it is a bit old and thread bare but well kept and clean. It's not too far from downtown and close enough to many attractions. I like that the rooms are large enough to entertain friends when I'm in the Midwest and easy to share with two queens in all the rooms I've stayed. The complex has a restaurant and bar plus a comedy club. Unfortunately it wasn't open during the height of the summer when I was there. For a fairly inexpensive motel I think is a good value.

Room Tip: They do offer smoking and non smoking rooms on opposite sides of the building.

If you are a nostalgic, it shouldn't be a problem with this hotel. However the hotel is old and it needs a bit of TLC. Rooms have no windows but the whole wall to the corridor is a window covered by a curtain which means it is noisy. The room smelled mouldy and the carpet needed a bit of care. It wasn't a horrible experience but next time I will choose another hotel. It is worth a visit though to see all the route 66 stuff all over the reception and corridors. Swimming pool was clean though.
As we travelled four people and were in a holiday happy mood, we didn't mind the down side of the hotel and looked at the funny side of it.

Room Tip: Just visit it for the route 66 stuff all around the hotel but sleep in another one.

We stayed here on our first night on Route 66. The hotel itself had quirky memorabilia, the pool is clean enough and the location is good (stones throw away from the Cozy Dog) However, the actual room had no windows and was therefore very damp and musky, they really need de-humidifiers in their rooms!! The blankets where also old and tired. A lot of effort has been put in for theme-ing this hotel for Route 66, but some of that effort needs to be directed towards the actual quality of the rooms.

The front wall of the room facing the hall way was completely glass with a curtain, it felt like you are sleeping in a shop window! Very odd!

Would not recommend this place as it is very outdated in the rooms and the doors did not feel secure. Overall the rest was OK. The restaurant was OK and the main hotel was also. If they spent a little money on the bedrooms like was spent on the safari hotel in tucumcari then it would make all the difference.

A somewhat strange layout is the first thing I noticed about this hotel. The room has more of a motel than hotel feel to it (once you've found it). That said, it has all the essentials, not to mention friendly staff. It is also situated a stones throw from Cozy Dog Drive-in which can't be a bad thing.

Even tough it may be an older building, it was clean and I enjoyed our stay there! Memorabilia is interesting to look at; loved the vintage cars in the lobby. Staff was friendly and the food in the restaurant was good. It is also nice to have a bar right in the hotel!

Finding your room the first time may make you feel like you are in a labyrinth, but it adds to the charm of this "out of the ordinary" hotel!
