Ok, the Inn itself is lovely. It is a beautifully historic home that was converted into a b&b...

I was traveling by myself on business and I made the reservation with only reading the reviews on here and not looking up anything else. Type the "inn at 835" into google and you will see... it's the most haunted place to stay in Illinois.

I get to the inn at about 4:30p, I was checking into my suite, and I just happen to mention to the girl that I was trying to cancel my reservation (but couldn't because it was too late- have to do it like 15 days before you stay) and that I'm staying by myself and get scared easily. Well, the attendent grabs the key to my room from me and tells me "you don't want to stay in that suite then, that's the one with the most activity"... so she puts me in this other room, which I thought wouldn't be haunted... or atleast, I wouldn't be scared. So, I get into my room and I just have this odd feeling like someone is watching me. I get freaked out and decide to go grab some dinner. As I'm walking back in, there's another woman at the front and I ask her about the place being haunted. She said the whole place is haunted and you just get used to it... that they aren't harmful. I don't care if they are harmful or not, I would've never stayed there if I knew... I get back to my room, take some nyquil to try and knock myself out... and man, I didn't sleep a wink. I had to wake up for work bright and early the next morning, I literally threw my stuff into a bag and left, no shower nothing... I was SO thankful to be out of there.
I don't think I've been more scared by myself before... Yeah, it might be silly, but I feel like the regular trip advisor visitor are business travelers like me, and after seeing the ratings of the other Springfield, IL hotels, the Inn at 835 seems appealing. It's not. Especially if you are by yourself. Sure, this would've been fun with a friend or boyfriend to search out the ghosts, but when I have to wake up for work the next morning and haven't had any sleep, no thanks. Good luck with your decisions of where to stay in Springfield. I will never return to this place.

The review of Ms Tatum from Charleston SC was unfair, we have email correspondence from her asking questions about the Inn's hauntings, in which we responded that we have never had personal experiences, although some guest have.... her reply indicated she will "brave it out." Never once did she try to cancel with anyone from the Inn at 835, and clearly she was aware of the history.
I would be more than happy to forward these emails to you, for I am extremely concerned about the negative factors this posting may have with other visitors to tripadvisors. It would be a shame if one person's mentally perceived paranormal veiwing experience spoils the professionalism and dedication we have diligently put into our business. My husband and I recently stayed at the Inn for our wedding anniversary and had a delightful time. The Inn was full for what I gather was a wedding that weekend but you would never have known once the door was closed to our room. The rooms are the size of a typical bedroom, but they are beautifully decorated and the bed was very comfortable. The Inn had available menues from area restaruants so choosing a place to eat was simple. We ordered breakfast in bed for the am and what a treat, everything was very tasty and nicely presented with real china and glassware. The staff were all very polite and accomidating. Overall we had a very nice stay I would and have recommended the Inn to friends and family for their special occasions.

I recently stayed in Springfield on business and I have to say the Inn at 835 was the best! Wine and cookies in the evening, a fabulous breakfast in the morning are included and the suggestions by the staff about where to eat dinner in town were the best. As for the rooms - I stayed in the Wisteria suite in the back 2 suite cottage and it had a very nice layout, comfortable bed, jacuzzi, shower. Can't say enough about this place except to advise you stay there!
