Description: Augie’s Front Burner is a locally owned, owner operated dining establishment that has served the Springfield area since 1997. Owner August Mrozowski is committed to offering all of his guests an exceptional, casual yet elegant, dining experience. A proud supporter of local businesses and local farmers, Augie’s Front Burner also offers catering for parties and special events.August Mrozowski, owner and chef of Augie’s Front Burner, started his culinary career in Springfield at the age of 13. Following in his father’s footsteps, he developed a passion for the culinary arts and worked at the Cafe L'Europe in Sarasota Florida for 19 years. In 1992, August opened his own restaurant, and in 1997 he returned home where he opened Augie’s Front Burner in Springfield. Augie’s overriding desire is to present his guests with the freshest and most interesting products available on the market. A strong supporter of other local businesses, Augie can be spotted weekly in the local farmers’ markets; he makes a point of knowing the best seasonal items that are available and creates his menus around those products. August’s creative flair can clearly be seen when it comes to his food presentation. He believes that fine dining is a multi-sensory experience, and he ensures that each plate is constructed and garnished beautifully so that when it arrives at the table, diner’s are ready to take in a flavorful, texture-filled culinary delight.

“Best restaurant in town”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 25, 2009

Unless you really like chain restaurants and fast food, Springfield has very few restaurants that are worth visiting. However, right downtown across from the Old State Capitol, there is one worth visiting. This is a restaurant where the chef offers periodic local tasting menus featuring local products (produce, meats, poultry, beers), as well as Asian- and Latin-influenced dishes. Even if you miss those nights, I always like the black bean cakes, the pseudo-Chinese barbecued duck, and whatever fish is the night's special. In nice weather, you can sit outdoors - don't worry there isn't enough car or pedestrian traffic to influence your enjoyment of the meal. The decor inside is faux Italian, but who cares. Dress up or not, it's your choice. There are some very good waiters here and some beginners who are trying to be good. Best places to sit - up front near the bar, where you can people watch. When you sit farther towards the back, you might notice a musty smell.

“Great Service, Decent Food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 25, 2009

We went to Augie's with a large group. Some in our group thought the service was a little slow. It was very crowded with large groups when we arrived. Our waiter offered to give separate checks for our table. What a relief. At the end of the meal, he even was kind enough to make sure we all knew gratuity was already added. I've never had a waiter do that before.

The food was very good and they had a great microbrew beer selection. Will definitely return when in Springfield.

“Spotty”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed August 11, 2009

We had a large party so the server was going to get his 20 percent. the wine OK, nothing too great, and the markup was what you'd expect. I was very disappointed in the entree and the service. I ordered the swordfish special. It was cold and gluey in the middle; clearly just out of the freezer, and not grilled with care. I pointed this out to the waiter who did not apologize (has he taken the wrong message from Julie&Julia? He took my plate and brought it back 5 minutes later, obviously reheated in the microwave. The peach salsa was hot, although the swordfish was cooked through. I couldn't ask him to replate it because he disappeared, even though he wasn't busy. Others were happier but my dinner was a mess.

“Not worth it”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 1, 2009

I live in Springfield and there are a lot of other places in town to go for better food and atmosphere. The house salad was tasty but the entrees lacked in many ways. The lamb tasted strange and the pork chop was tasteless. The potatoes were quite good but avoid the dessert. Drinks were overpriced as well as the food. I do not see us going again and definately would nol recommend.
