“Fun and Educational”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 18, 2013

We enjoyed our visit to the museum. There are a few movies, and two separate areas of Lincoln's life. Very interesting.

“Terrific Museum”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 18, 2013

The Lincoln Presidential Museum is one of the best in the country. The design of the exhibits is first-rate. The displays are technologically advanced and appeal to visitors of all ages. Lincoln's personal and professional life is detailed in a comprehensive way. The museum collection includes many items that belonged to the family. The museum is located in downtown Springfield just a few blocks from the Old State Capitol building. A parking garage is conveniently located across the street. There is a sandwich place on site.

“Wonderful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 16, 2013

This museum is a fascinating experience that is not to be missed. You should go.

Visually stunning, with displays as engaging and accessible as any I've seen in any museum, this museum does a truly excellent job of communicating history. Dioramas and paintings present vivid pictures of the time. The musical score playing in each room of the museum heightens your emotional response to the story being told.

The theater presentation "Ghosts of the Library" is technically astounding, beautifully written, and movingly performed. Just outside the exit from this presentation is something that I thought might be the best thing in the museum: a small theater in a little nook in the wall, presenting a series of Lincoln's letters and sayings, each in its historical context. I sat through the entire cycle of sayings, and left reluctantly, wishing it was longer.

No photography is allowed except in the central plaza, which is complete nonsense. This is clearly indicated on their website but that doesn't make it an acceptable practice. When a man near me tried to photograph the replica log cabin, the otherwise gracious docent became quite shrill as she insisted he stop. Their reasons are depressingly mercenary: when you arrive in the gift shop, the cashier offers to sell you an expensive book of the photographs they would not let you take yourself. This brazenly commercial practice left a bad taste in my mouth.

However, the otherwise attractive gift shop was, I was pleased to see, well stocked with a large number of excellent books, biographies, and histories, including literature of Lincoln's time.

“Very Informative”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 15, 2013

So much information I didn't know about President Lincoln. I have wanted to go for years. So glad I finally got there. The staff of the museum were very nice and super helpful. There are plenty of places to sit and rest if you need to.
