Owner description: Painstakingly rebuilt after being disassembled in the 1960s, this Greek Revival masterpiece saw Lincoln serve as a lawyer and legislator. In 1858, Lincoln delivered his landmark "House Divided" speech in the Capitol's Representatives Hall.

“One of the most complete old State Capitol buildings.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 3, 2012

This building contains the legislature, supreme court, etc., as it was when Illinois was a young state. A very good example of how state government was arranged during time past.

“"House Divided" speech made here.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 20, 2012

So much history here. Lincoln served his final term in the State Legislator here. He pleaded cases before the Supreme Court here. His body laid in state here. The grand staircase is beautiful as well as the dome. Underground parking is available and other sites are easy walking distance.

“You can feel the history as soon as you walk in”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 19, 2012

As soon as you walk in you can feel the history dripping down the walls. All I wanted to do was just sit and listen. While standing in the middle of the stairs I could just imagine all the people running up and down to pass along news or information amongst each other when major events were happening.
