We booked Sissi bay earlier in the year after much searching for something laid back and relaxed. I'd been all over the world but never been to a Greek Island, but had heard great things.
On arrival (1am) we were greeted by Jimmy, we had read about him on here and the write ups were very accurate. A very friendly Geordie who runs the tropical bar on the other side of the complex, we were taken to our room and were pleasantly surprised. Ok, the rooms are basic, but they are very clean and nicely finished, after all, how much time do you spend in your room? We were placed in the new part of the resort in the garden area across from the Spa, it was nice and quiet (didn't face the morning sun) and we had our own veranda/decking area.
Breakfast was very good, they had a full range of the typical things to have a full english breakfast should you choose, an array of fruit and muesli, croissants, cereals, the list goes on. All freshly cooked or prepared and of a good quality.
The facilities in the hotel all looked very good and well looked after, several pools all over the resort and all well maintained and clean. Lots of nice little seating areas and cool spaces for when the weather gets too hot. One thing I found very handy was the library, you could literally help yourself to any book, the range of titles was impressive with all languages catered for. Lots of bars although what they describe as the main bar near reception didn't appear to be open, we wouldn't have gone there anyway as the pool bar and tropical bar were much better.
Lunch and dinner were very good and represented fantastic value for money, the quality of ingredients was very good and the range of foods on offer was great. Even in the second week we wondered whether they would repeat weeks ones menu, however we struggled to think of anything they repeated in the whole two weeks. Food was one of the areas we are always dubious about with all inclusive. We're both keen cooks and enjoy good food, so it's important that quality food is on offer. Our tastes are very broad and we're not fussy eaters whatsoever, so we were delighted with what was presented to us. If you want typical english fayre then don't go abroad! The food was predominantly greek, which was exactly what we wanted, although we did hear the odd person complain they didn't have hamburgers and chips! Honestly, stay at home or go to Spain! The sweet dishes can't go without a mention here. Now am not someone with a sweet tooth, and never bother with desert, but lets just say the deserts were exceptional, the in-house chef was awesome!
Drinks - they were watered down, despite what Jimmy said, your free drink before 11pm tasted very different to the paid for one after 11pm, seemed to have a different effect, although none of us were bothered in the slightest. Anyway, there was none of the usual rationing that you get on all inclusive and the choice of drinks was good.
There were snacks available throughout the day if you needed it, I think I did on day two but then realised I was being a glutton and the big lunch was more than enough! They have coffee and cake at around 4.30pm which I would recommend, again, not a cake fan but it was lovely.
Overall the resort has a lot to offer, if you're looking for party central then this is NOT the place for you. We wanted somewhere nice and relaxed to enjoy nice food, good people and really unwind - this ticked the box in every aspect.
The only downsides:
Bottled water, you do have to pay for this which is odd, i've never had that on an all-inclusive. Having said that, you CAN drink the tap water, and either bar has a filtered system and the water is quite nice and ice cold.
Air con - you do have to pay extra for this, although we knew there would be an additional charge we didn't realised it would be 8 Euro a day, 112 Euro for the whole trip. We didn't expect it to be quite that much. Having said that, our room didn't face the morning sun and to be honest we never really needed it. I can imagine some rooms would, so bear this in mind when booking and include this in your estimated costs.
This review can't go without a mention to Sabine, Jimmy, Sofia and Nikos who all work at Sissi Bay. They were all lovely (as were the other staff) and really made us feel welcome. We really enjoyed our stay at Sissi Bay.
Crucial question, would we go back? ABSOLUTELY.
