“Average but had a great holiday”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 4, 2012

Although I have graded the Martimo average its just not very good, good would have been the correct grade. We had a lovely holiday at Sissi, very quiet although go out into the small harbour town and find the great bars, restaurants etc. The room we had was 801 which was huge, very comfortable with good furniture, our friends had a smaller room but quite adequate for their needs. Would love to have a tea making facilities in the room that was our biggest bug bare. This brings me onto the food, some very strange combinations arrived each night, but overall found something we could eat, lots of salad, fruit etc, we had a great waitress Angela who became a great source of amusement we voted her Employee of the Year! all the other staff where very good as well, bar staff included. Please go to Cielo Bar at the top of the road turn right and just across the road have a great evening with Manos, tell him Bob and Paul send their regards, he makes the best cocktails and the best wine in town. Also the actual bar is beautifully decorated with a retracting roof. Sissi beach is not much to right home about but go around the bay and the beach is not bad only about 20mins walk. Also the Alexi beach bar along the sea front does a very good chicken burger, I know its not very Greek but its good.

Room Tip: You could ask for a high room as you do seem to get people who seem to want to drag chairs up and do...

Family owned hotel, small and perfectly formed. So clean and well cared for. Quiet, peaceful, relaxed and relaxing. The staff are the best i have ever come across, so friendly, calm and happy to please - they truly understand the meaning of excellent service, going about their work happily and so very friendly. Very short walk into Sissi. Perfectly situated right by the sea. Two lovely clean pools, rooms of a good standard and, again, so clean. Cleaned thoroughly daily. Top tip - best trip is the happy train - 15 euros for a half day trip round the island and stops pretty much right outside the hotel. Other top tip - if you go to Spinalonga, forget the organised trips, they rush you through so quickly you actually see nothing - get to Elounda yourself and go over on a local boat. Will most certainly be going back to the Maritimo - it is superb.

Room Tip: Room 104 has an amazing view, but shady balcony (mind you, in that heat, it was great). room 114 has...

Just arrived back on a night flight from Sisi and stayed at Maritimo beach Sisi. I arrived at 12 .30 am and I booked with thomas Cook. was met by a nice friendly young chap who gave me some dinner as i missed mine. I was given a family room which was great but i had to move to a double room as i was alone. That was room 517. Dont stay in that room. The niose from the traffic goes on all night and there is an electric pilon right out side. Ok there was a bit of a sea view after all the parked cars. The hotel rooms were nice and clean but the food!! It was quite basic to say the least. It is better to go bed and breakfast as the meals are not nice at all. there was no cheif. It is a family run hotel. George was nice and heplfull and the young lady on the reception desk was helpfull. There is no beach there only rocks. The beach is about 20 mins walk away called Bofos beach and another smaller beach further on. The first beach is not recomended as it belongs to another hotel. That is by the harbour. One point dont book excursions with Tomas Cook. Trips are a lot cheaper in resort. There is a travel agent just up the road and they speak perfect English. They helped me book my trips. I hardly saw the Tomas Cook rep and the trips with them were very costly. There are a couple of supermarkets near by and also some sovenier shops but was told they shut down after October for the winter. There are some nice taverners around. I would go back to Crete but not Sisi as it is always the last drop off and I would NOT go back to Maritimo beach.I also turned my fridge off at night as it made such a niose together with the traffic noise.

Room Tip: Rooms on the east side have traffic noise. ask for a middle room

If you want a quiet relaxing friendly holiday, then this is the hotel for you. The Maritimo is run by a lovely Greek family who are always around, eating and drinking amongst the guests and getting to know you. It is set overlooking the sea at Sissi, where there is a small selection of shops and a good selection of bars, tavernas and restaurants, many set around the beautiful harbour and with lovely sea views.

The hotel is spotless, clean towels and bedding each day and the most amazingly friendly staff, most of whom get to know you personally.

There was a good mixture of nationalities, all friendly and with most wanting the same sort of relaxing holiday.

The main pool is deep and there were never many people in it – lovely to swim in without people jumping in all around you! There were always free sunbeds without towels on too!! There is a second shallower pool set behind the main building amongst the lovely gardens and grounds.

It was lovely to sit out and relax on the terrace, with the pool in view and then seaviews beyond. The pool bar serves drinks and snacks and is very efficiently run by the lovely Katerina and Athena.

Food in the hotel was very good with plenty of choices. Hot dishes and European style breakfast and the evening meal usually consisted of a variety of starters, cold buffet, pasta with choice of sauces and 3 hot Greek dishes with a good selection of vegetables and puddings. The self service area does get a little busy at 7pm, but we found going in to dinner a little later solved this. We were always happy with our meals and the service from the smiling and attentive staff.

If we had any negatives, it would be that the standard rooms do not look like those in the brochure or the website – these photos are the superior rooms and they have the best seaviews too. However, all the rooms are spacious and have plenty of storage and hangers, but ours felt a little dated. Other guests had similar rooms. This did not detract from our lovely stay there, and we will certainly be returning when we can.
We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the Maritimo.

Room Tip: We have been told the superior rooms are worth paying the extra for.

First impressions of the hotel on arrival was very good, but on entering our room we were very disappointed, we had booked a superior/deluxe room and expected to at least get a wow factor on arrival, but the room was just a 3 star standard but had a flat screen tv and fridge. I have stayed in may 3 star hotels in greece and this room was no different and really cannot see why it is classed as superior/deluxe.
The food in the hotel leaves alot to be desired, very basic and we only used the restaurant twice during our stay and ate out at the local tavernas, can highly recommend Neromilos and Edem for excellent greek cooking. Breakfast was ok for toast and cereal but again if you wanted bacon, egg etc this can be obtained at a resonable cost locally,
The hotel grounds and pool were kept very clean and the pool bar was excellent for lunch, the omlettes were lovely just a shame the evening food could not have been as good.
If you book to go to the Maritimo make a request NOT to stay in block 8 you will have no view except for the back of the rooms in block 7 and the noise from the all inclusive hotel at the rear of the Maritimo during the early morning and late afternoon (very loud music) was very annoying.
Sissi is a very pretty resort, if you are looking for a lively holiday it is not the resort for you, but if you want to relax or like walking then the resort is ideal.
Would I return to this hotel - No. Would I return to Crete, definately, have been holidaying in Crete for the past 20 years in self catering accommodation, just thought we would upgrade this year as we were taking friends with us, but as previously quoted the rooms and food were not as expected.

Room Tip: Would definately book a room with a Sea View rather than Superior/Deluxe.

We have just returned from our second holiday at the Maritimo, another fantastic 14 days. Last year was brilliant and this year was unbelieveable too.
From walking into reception on our first night we felt completely relaxed and at home and this feeling continued throughout the whole 14 days of our holiday, thanks to the warm and friendly atmosphere created by all the staff.
Every staff member has a kind and caring attitude towards the guests to such a point that we felt like part of the 'Family'.... congratulations to all involved because as far as we are concerned, what ever they are doing they are doing it exceptionally well. All the staff we met last year remembered us this year, it was like a big happy reunion.
Being within a few minutes walking distance of a rocky foreshore or if preffered a small sandy beach with easy access to the sea... the choice is yours.
A few more minutes walk around the small harbour brings you to Sissi itself with shops, bars and restaurants, the ones we visited were excellent.
Sissi by day or by night has a wonderful relaxing atmosphere as does the Maritimo Beach Hotel. We are certainly booking for next year making it 3 years running at this hotel. (Can't wait).
Thanks once again to all.
Smiley faces always.
Graham & Maureen.

Room Tip: Request high balcony with pool or sea view.
