We spent one week at the Kalimera Kriti and experienced outstanding service and received good value for money.

The room was big (we had room A138, a waterfront bungalow) that was about 300 steps away from the main building (yes, I really counted the steps...).

The good things: Breakfast and dinner buffet were very, very good. A good choice of everything you would like to have on your plate was there.

There are actually two beaches you can go to. One is more protected as the other. So you have a choice where you want to swim.

As the whole resort offers many opportunities where you can have lunch, drink an expresso or just enjoy dinner, you will like to have this choice on where to spend your time. And even better, it never appeared to be crowded although there were a lot of people at this time of year.

The beach was just incredibly great. Clean, well managed and quiet (well, most of the time at least.

If you travel with kids, you will find that the entire resort is just perfectly build for you. The waiters as well as the management will do anything to make you and your kids feel comfortable.

We were not with kids and we never had an issue with that many kids around us which is not that usual in other hotels, I think.

Our room was rather high and the floor was made of stone which provided a rather good temperature inside. Furthermore, the air-conditioning could be controlled by remote control which I found rather useful.

The bad things: I would like to have a bigger bath, but hey, you're there to swim and enjoy the sea so that wasn't a big problem after all. We were shown two other room types (deluxe bungalow and two room suite). Both had much larger bathrooms so you might want to book one of those if you need a bigger bathroom.

TV: Well, the device itself is like 10 years old. The remote control would no longer have any signs on it so we had to figure out the function of each button - rather awkward, really. However, the two other room types I mentioned had new LCD flat screens. There are many European stations one could watch including the most popular ones (German speaking). CNN and BBC News as well.

The hotel was built in 1993 after 10 years of construction, we were told. You can imagine that some of the bathrooms would require a refresh, but as I've said, the rooms are really ok in general.

The guest we meat were from Switzerland, Germany, UK, Australia, Russia, Italy, France and the Netherlands.

We will go back, that is for sure!

As we always consult Trip Advisor before booking anywhere we decided it was time that we put something back in.
We can thoroughly reccommend the Kalimea Kriti village resort for service , quality of surrounding, quality of food and all over high standards of service.

The room (in a bungalow) was very spacious and kept very clean and tidy by housekeeping staff. Only slight niggle was that the sattelite TV was very German orientated with about 8 channels to English language's two - yes you've guessed CNN & BBC world !

The reastaurant offered a huge selection buffet style at both breakfast & dinner and the service of the waiting staff was both courteous and well organised by the three maitre d's who seemed to be there constantly.

The facilities were very good two large out door pools kept very clean - your own private beach and an indoor pool. Also a whole area devoted to small children which looked excellent fun. Squash, tennis, table tennis TV room, card room free internet access etc etc.

We would certainly say that the hotel offered very good value for money and is ideal for young families and older couples alike - but not not enough action for 18-30's

We hope this is of some use to anyone considering the hotel and of some comfort to anyone who has booked and seeks confirmation that they have made a good choice - relax you have !

Our family (husband and I, our 3 girls and the in-laws) were at the resort the last week of October which was the last week of the season. The hotel is beautiful - beautiful gardens and spacious public areas-Simple, laid back elegant. The hotel was only 1/4 full, but even in the high season it will be spacious.

Rooms: We booked 2 VIP Waterfront Suites (A52 and A53) and one waterfront double bungalow (A120). The waterfront suites are the best rooms in the hotel. They are first row to the beach and each had a beautiful terrace with chairs and umbrellas. They were individually furnished - simple, very clean but not "luxury". The waterfront double bungalow was spartan but had a beautiful patio and view of the ocean. Here there were a few steps down to the beach/lawn area and the location was not as private as that of the suites. Towels were changed twice a day, great linens, towels and fluffy bathrobes.

Food: We booked half board - although if you decide to eat outside the hotel in the evening you can pick up vouchers for lunch at the taverna. Breakfast and dinner at the main restaurant was for the most in buffet form. The quality of the food was high and the dishes do vary. Service was efficient and friendly for the most. Different languages are not a problem. We often had lunch at the tavena. The food in the taverna is excellent but the service is unfriendly (watch out for Eva!)

Hotel Grounds and Beach: The buildings and grounds are well kept. The beach is cleaned of debris every morning. The water was quite rough when we were at the hotel with lots of wind. There are a lot of steps to climb from the main hotel building down to the beach and pool area. The two outdoor freshwater pools are lovely and the smaller indoor pool is heated.

Kids: There is a children’s pool area with mini-club. The mini-club is ideal for smaller children - but there were no organized activities for our girls (10-11 years). But at the activity centre they could use the equipment and play games.

Overall: We will be back - but in the summer season. The season was over and the weather was quite cool with a lot of wind and rain. The hotel is not 5-star luxury but better than a 4 -star.

“Great Location, Lousy Management”

Kalimera Kriti Hotel Village Resort

We had exactly the same experience as the previous reviewer from Surrey. Having booked a waterfront bungalow we were escorted to a remote room that couldn't have been any further away from the sea. We rang reception immediately and were informed we'd been upgraded to a suite. They were the worst room/s we have ever stayed in, dark, oppressive, shabby, dusty in some areas and totally depressing. We felt it was probably kept as a stand by for emergencies.

In the morning we viewed a bungalow. Much better, bright and airy but in our opinion it was NOT waterfront. We were perched on a cliff overlooking scrub land to the left and had no access to a path. We were told it was a waterfront position and there were none available nearer the sea until end September (this was the 13th).

Reception staff admitted there had been a booking error but insisted we were now in the room we had paid for and refused a refund of our supplement.

Our rep (Airtours Prestige: Holly and her manager) were fantastic and by the second week we had a cash refund as it was obvious to them that the hotel were in the wrong.

Apart from the appalling attitude of the hotel reception staff the complex is in a wonderful location and very relaxing. Definitely over priced and not five star accommodation but great place nevertheless.

Would we return? No- we dont like being taken for fools.

Be very careful to check what you are booking and dont unpack until satisfied!!

BEWARE !!! This hotel has a habit of overbooking their rooms and placing you in a cheaper room that you did not book but without informing you and hoping that you will not realise.
!
We booked a waterfront bungalow suite and when we arrived at reception were given our key to what we believed was our suite. When we got to our room and it was obvious to us this was not a waterfront bungalow. We could just about see the sea from our room! We rang our representative from Planet to let her know and said she would deal with this. We also rang reception and they were totally unhelpful and even had the nerve to say that we had been upgraded!! How can that be when we have booked probably the most expensive room in the hotel. We then went to see the manager who finally admitted that there had been an error in our booking but we would have to stay in that room for the night and move out the next day.

There was not real apology and I told him it was very inconvenient as we were not able to unpack for another night.

I felt that they try it on and see if they can get away with it. We have since written to Planet for a refund which is due to us as we were put in a cheaper room.

By coincidence about three days later a german couple asked to view our room as they had also expereinced the same problem but ufortuantely for them they would have to wait a further three days before they could get into the waterfront bungalow they had booked. So beware they overbook and do not even tel you they are putting you in a cheaper room.

Another point I woud say is that the bathrooms were not very good. The bath was old and very small and although there was a power shower and it was very good the shower was not attached to the wall so you had to hold the shower in one hand while showering and there was nowhere to hang anything such as towels or anywhere to place toiletries. Also there was lots of little black flies eveyrwhere int he bathroom.

We only booked B &B and walked into Sissi for meals.

One plus point about the hotel was the sandy beach (although not as big as portrayed in the brochures, it would appear that some of the beach has been eroded away) and very clean and very safe for swimming as it is a bay. The water is lovely and clear and clean.
