Just went to another performance at The Holland in downtown Omaha. What a wonderful venue and what a wonderful symphony. Omaha's symphony can compete with any other US city's orchestra. Just like the big-name orchestras, Omaha's musicians have studied all over the World, yet congegrate here, a "best kept secret" of a town (and those of us who live here would like to keep it a secret :-) )
The Holland Center itself seems a bit cold but the acoustics are fantastic - which makes every seat a good seat. The building has almost a 1960's look and the inside is almost art deco with the medium-colored wood and the stainless handrailings. The carpeting in the common areas is what keeps this facility from being totally cold.
At intermission, bars were open and plentiful - good thing because there was barely enough time to drink a cocktail and use the facilities before resuming the performance. The volunteer staff was wonderful, friendly and accommodating. Seating was comfortable. Sound excellent. Will be going again.
