“Comfy, no-frills motel room ~ FANTASTIC restaurant!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 17, 2012

Frankly, we chose the Mineral Lodge because 1) we needed a place to sleep for one night after being evacuated from the Summit Lake campground in Lassen (and didn't want to set up another campsite) 2) we went in the direction of Mineral, and Mineral has one lodging...the Mineral lodge, 3) it has a GREAT sign and 4) they had a room available. The rooms *are* basic and no-frills. No air conditioning, I don't think there was a TV (didn't look), and we got the room with the windows that need to be propped up with sticks. But, are you really looking for the Four Seasons when you're in the woods and planning hiking trips at Lassen? That said, the proprietors are friendly, the room was comfy (the bed was GREAT!) and everything was adequately clean. And the restaurant! From the look of it, I was expecting the usual rural "family restaurant," ... you know, the kind that's fine, but uses canned mushrooms. Well, this place is GREAT! Had one of the best burgers I've had in a long, long time, excellent salad, and a nice selection of beers on tap. Breakfast was also excellent. And the service was superlative...very friendly and attentive. The servers in my big City could take a lesson from them. Don't go in expecting too much and you'll be happy...and definitely try the restaurant!

What were my 3 favorite things about this motel?
1. Location
2. Location
3. Location

The gentleman who checked us in was quiet but nice. We had reserved a room with a queen bed and two twins. Upon arrival in the room we saw the queen (which was smaller than queen-size beds we have had at other hotels) and only one of the twins. Closer inspection showed that there was a fold-up bed underneath the first twin we saw.

Except for the coffee maker and microwave, I imagine the room was much as it looked about 50 years ago. I like retro-style buildings, cars, clothes and all manner of things, so it didn't bother me. How quickly my daughters' socks got dirty after walking around the in the room only a short time did, however. Otherwise it was fairly clean.

Keep in mind that the store closes at 6:00 PM in the summer. We arrived about 5:45 when it was still quite bright outside in early July, so we did not realize it was nearly closing time. We dropped off our luggage in our room and went back to the store to buy a few things only to find out we were too late. At least the room was stocked with pots and pans so we could cook macaroni and cheese for the kids and instant kim chee ramen for the adults.

The next day we were only 15 minutes or so from the Lassen Volcanic National Park visitor center. There didn't appear to be many other places to stay closeby, so the Lassen Mineral Lodge may be as good as it gets in the vicinity. As long as you keep your expectations in check, it is a decent place to stay the night when visiting Lassen. The room isn't one I would choose to lounge around in, but it suffices for sleep after a day in the park.

Let me start off by saying if it wasn't for the restaurant I would give this a one star. Our experience in the restaurant for dinner and breakfast were great. We had the same friendly waitress both times who was terrific and the food was generous and very good. We arrived late and the waitress put out room charge on the food bill and gave us our key after we ate. The room on the other hand was a lot to be desired. No internet, no TV, no a/c. We opened the front windows which had to be held up with twigs(provided in the window) The bathroom window didn't have a screen to keep the bugs out so we didn't get much of a breeze. Spider webs in the corners of the bathroom, the bottom of the shower curtain was pink from mildew, the checker set was covered with dust, and the chair had seen its days. Unfortunately it's the only other closest place was 30 miles away.

This motel was likely constructed in the 1920's. Yes, its old, there are few modern themes that other motels offer today. But the bed was comfortable, clean and the restuarant service was top notch. Checking into the motel, one of the emploees was a bit how shall I say, well he did not seem thrilled to see us but I can live with that. An ATM would be helpful. Overall I would stay there again. The population of Mineral is about 90, so you have to be realistic, there are not going to be any major motel chains there, nor would I ever want one.

This hotel is right outside the Lassen National Forest. It is one of those small places you see off the highway. ..and you aren't sure whether it's an ok place to sleep. Surprisingly...the beds are comfy and the water pressure is amazing!

I was a bit leery of staying here after reading the other reviews, but the motel accommodations were perfectly adequate in all respects, especially considering that we were in a rural, somewhat isolated, mountain community. My wife and I stayed here with our son, his wife, and three elementary school aged children, and found two rooms adequate for our needs.

Yes this is a no frills, rustic, out of the way lodge for those that are more into the great out doors, camping and wild life. I, on the other hand, like things that have been upgraded a bit. The overstuffed leather chair in our room was just plain worn out and dirty. The place is old and most of what is in it is old although the bed was comfortable and clean (so was the bathroom). Too many steps to get up to our room (knee problems). The over all exterior is in need of a lot of repairs but it appears they have been working on that.
On the bright side...their restaurant was excellent! Fair pricing, great food, with fast friendly service. BUT, they don't open until 9:00 AM for breakfast and there is no other places to go near by that open any sooner (no coffee pot in rooms!).
