Maison de la Tour is a modern 4 bedroom house set in a recently constructed gated development on the outskirts of the beautiful village of Plan de la Tour. Plan is the perfect Provençale village, with several bakers, a butcher, a couple of bars and more than it's fair share of resurants.
It is located about 6.0 km from St Maxime and about 12.0km for St Tropez albeit it's a busy area so journey times do not reflect the distance. The location is within easy reach of Marseilles, Cannes, Nice and Monaco and the Italian border.
The site has a communal pool which is excellent size and condition and is within sight and earshot of the house, this was never busy although being communal there are few loungers.
The house was advertised as being top of the range and state of the art which we took particular note of as we had childeren in the party, I beleive there was mention of a playstation and Ipad in one description we read, however, none of this equiptment was there when we arrived. In fact the equiptment was very basisc, the satelite TV only has english speaking news channels and the music system was broken on our arrival, luckily we had a techy in the party who mended it.
One of the sun loungers was broken and we discovered that the air conditioning was also broken in one room.
The quality of the kitchen equipment was very good but there were insufficient trays etc. to cook a meal for 8 people, there was no tin opener, coffee machine and most importantly there was no BBQ although the details widely advertised one as being available. A coffee machine was quickly provided for us as was the offer of use of a Hot plate in lieu of a BBQ.
We found all this a bit alarming as the the security deposit requirements were a bit strong, requiring a much larger deposit than we have ever paid before (some 4 times more) and this was supposed to be held for 2 months before the holiday and a month after, albeit we negotiated an acceptable compromise.
The turnround lady who is there to assit is very nice, she lives next door but unfortunatly does not speak a word of english so is limited in how much assistance she can give.
Three things were very annoying:
1.0 - The faulty air conditioning meant we had uncomfortable nights or slpet with the window open and suffered from the midges. We reported it to the owner but nothing was done during our stay.
2.0 - Secondly the absence of a BBQ, we use it a lot usually and it is usually the focal point of our holidays if we dont eat out. The owner offered us a brand new hot plate which we took out of the box and assemebled only to discover there was no regulator or gas bottle, regulators were for sale locally at 38 euros but by the time we brought this and a gas bottle it would have stood us in the large part of 80 euros so we did not use it.
3.0 - Lastly having hyped the place up as being state of the art and well equipt we did not find it to be so.
The other aforementioned issues are minor things I am sure the owner can esily rectify. The location and the gated community are lovely, the house is large and in good condition the furniture and beds were all comfortable. The cost was higher than we have previously found which may be a reflection on the area, however, we had big expectations as a result and whilst it was as good as other houses we have stayed in it was not the large step up in quality we were expecting but could easily have been. We are not serial complainers so did not get bogged down with the issues and had two weeks there and would definately return and recomend the place.
