“# One”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 10, 2012

We stayed at Hotel Du Poete owned by the same owners as Café Fleurs and believe me this family knows what they are doing. The hotel was fantastic. The restaurant was superb every dish was to die for; the wine which was recommended to us was great. We don’t speak French and where given English menus, what a pleasure, although our waiter spoke English very well. The décor is fantastic and the garden beautiful. We did get the hotel to book for us and the only grip would be that a smoking table was not booked when they knew we both smoked, actually come to think of it I am not sure if there is a smoking section in the restaurant, but it was not the end of world the food and ambiance made up for that one minor glitch

“Spend a little extra, enjoy a lot more”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 21, 2012

Why spend €30+ in one of the tourist drag cafes for ordinary food and average service when, for €10-20 more you can have an excellent meal and superb service at Café Fleurs. We wanted to go for my wife's birthday, but they are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, so we booked for Friday, the evening before we returned home. The welcome was warm and genuine, the table just outside on the terrace with rose petals falling in the breeze. Helpful, friendly, very efficient service. The meal was excellent, the wine ideal and not expensive. Certainly somewhere for a special occasion.

“Check the Label!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 16, 2012

We had an excellent dinner at Cafe Fleurs. The service was perfect, our waiter very helpful with menu selections, and our terrace dining room was surrounded by magnificent roses. Walking back to our house, however, we discussed that the bill was a lot higher than we thought it should be, and discovered that for the 25 Euro bottle of wine we thought we'd ordered, we were charged 125 Euros! My husband and his brother returned immediately, only to find out that on the wine list there were other wines from the same vineyard, with the same name, but a different vintage. When we ordered we clearly said what we wanted, but when the wine was presented to us we did not notice the very slight difference in label. Maybe we should have read it more careful, however who really looks at every detail of the bottle presented when it has the correct vineyard and wine name. But it seems certain that the waiter should have known the wine list well enough to realize such a confusion was possible and should have double checked with us which wine we meant to order. (It was an excellent wine - and we did drink it, to be sure.) After a tense exchange the manager agreed to "split the difference, and refunded us 50 Euros. All is well that ends well.

“modern French cooking - a fab lunch!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 14, 2012

We passed this place 4 times before we realised it was a restaurant that many previous occupants of our Gite had recommended - it looks quite understated from the entrance, which is out onto the footbridge and looks dark from outside. However, having ventured in, we found the most delightful semi-shady garden, with impressively-laid tables and an inviting menu.

I started with courgette flowers stuffed with salmon and cucumber - very well executed, and with some great basil dressing. Second course was local fish, on fennel braised in tumeric & star anise - again, perfectly cooked, with flair and perfect balance. Then - OMG as I believe they say nowadays - the most amazing dessert I have personally ever had (and I speak as a cheese girl, usually avoiding all sweet dishes), which was a blood arange tian, super-light mousse layered with bitter-sweet oranges and filo pastry and with some amusing spun sugar. That reminds me, there was a lovely amuse bouche at the beginning of an asparagus and basil veloute - perfect texture.

All of this, and the service was impeccable and discreet, the Head Waiter making a great wine recommendation, just right for the dishes even though they were awkward to match (and he didn't suggest anywhere near the top end of the price range, which would have happened in GB).

Lunch for 2, including wine, was a respectable 120Euros, which was as much as we paid elsewhere in L'Isle for far inferior food.

Highly, highly recommended!

“For a special occasion”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 14, 2012

We happened to come across this on our anual visit to I'isle...and made a reservation for that night, we were lucky as it was raining that night we were able to sit inside, the place was booked out...the food very very nice, delicate and full of flavour...a good wine list and all the staff curtious throughout the meal.
It is quite expensive but a very nice restauarnt for that special occasion.
