We chose this hotel for our pre Alaskan cruise stay in Anchorage because of our excellent experience with the Marriott Residence Inn in Folsom, CA. We had our 10 year old grandson with us and knew from our Folsom experience that they were child friendly and in addition had an indoor swimming pool which he thoroughly enjoyed. We found the rate extremely reasonable, especially considering we were there in the middle of tourist season. Evidentially Marriott has an excellent employee screening and training program as the staff was very attentive and displayed pride in offering a comfortable stay.

We usually try to stay at Residence Inn whenever we can since we enjoy the convenience of the kitchen and the separate rooms. The Residence Inn in Anchorage met all of our requirements -- nice clean rooms, a supermarket a few blocks away, good service. We had a car in Anchorage so its location away from downtown was not a problem, but if you don't have a car, it would be hard to get around.

My husband works in Anchorage and I visit here often. We had been staying in the Homestead but they raised their rates. I was skeptical but really like Residence Inn. It is very clean and the staff is friendly. The pool is beautiful and inviting. Cooking out on the large gas grill has been fun for our group. The grill is just outside of the dining area in nicely landscaped courtyard. There are plenty of tables there so you can 'hang out' on nice days. Our suite has 2 flat screened televisions, an awesome kitchen, dining table and work desk. If you come try to get a room with a view of the courtyard, not the parking lot. There are plenty of restuarants nearby on 36th Street that you can walk to. Fred Meyers, Sears Mall and a theater are also close enough to walk to. Moose Tooth is in sight of the hotel, they have the best pizza I have ever had. I do miss having a shuttle service taking me downtown, but have found riding the bus is easy. Bus rides are $1.25 or 50 cents for seniors. They provide breakfast and dinner at no cost and breakfast only Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Beer and wine are served at no cost on nights when dinner is served. The food is good and varied.

This was the perfect place to stay for us. We had a suite with two bedrooms, two bathrooms and a great living/kitchen area. It was within walking distance of a grocery store - that came in handy. We were surprised to learn of the reception that was served each night - food and drink - who needs to go out???

The staff was very friendly and willing to assist.

The only glitch we had was with the WIFI service. Apparently they had just switched providers. The system was slow and dropped frequently. They didn't have anyone on staff who could assist so they connected us with the service provider. We spent a lot of time on "hold" waiting which added to the frustration. Hopefully they have worked out the bugs.

This was an awesome stay!!! The rooms are huge even with a fireplace! Comfy beds, great showers, amazing breakfast each morning and snacks and beverages in the evenings (except on weekends). We stayed 5 nights - loved every minute! Well, except with the internet. They had gotten a new service or something and we struggled with the connections every day. But other than that - it was the perfect spot for us!

I was quite impressed when I checked into my room. It was very spacious, there was a small cooking area, full size refrigerator, pots/pans and utensils & a large flat-screen tv. The staff was great, some went out of their way to assist you. I felt very comfortable until bedtime. I did not find the bed very comfortable and the pillows were terrible. They go flat and make your head feel too warm. I had a very hard time sleeping. I would hope that these issues are with just one room, I may have to give it one more try. If I do stay at this hotel again I will book for a one bedroom to see if there is any change. This room I am reviewing was a studio.
