“Nice "Alaskan" decor in lobby”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 11, 2013

This was our first stop on an Alaskan trip. We liked this hotel as it was close to the train station here we needed to go the next day to catch a train. The lobby was beautiful -- not huge by any means -- but comfortable and definitely with an Alaska theme. Hallways carry the same theme throughout. Staff at the desk were helpful. The room was fine, especially for an overnight. Breakfast was okay. Something to put in our stomachs before a train trip that left early. I'd certainly stay there again for convenience and comfort.

We chose to stay here because we had an early train in the morning. We were concerned the proximity to the station would mean noise, but with the AC and well insulated windows, we never heard a thing. The staff was friendly, our room was newly re-done and the ample breakfast opened early to accommodate the early train. It was an easy 5-10 minute walk to the station.

We stayed at this hotel on 2 separate occasions, the first on our arrival day checking in at ~7:30 pm and checking out the next morning at 9. We called the hotel to send the shuttle as soon as we got our luggage and waited about 30 minutes. We arrived to chocolate chip cookies being served fresh from the oven, found the rooms to be very pleasant, well supplied, and clean, the staff was friendly and helpful, and the breakfast in the morning to be more than adequate. We walked around the creek watching the fisherman which was nice. We needed to use the shuttle the next day to take us to Avis which is in town, to pick up our rental car. When we inquired at check in we were told we would have to get on the schedule for the next day so we signed up for 9 am. We took the shuttle, picked up our car then returned to the hotel to check out and pick up our luggage.
Our second day was two days later in the evening on our return to Anchorage for one night before taking the train to Seward. We went to the hotel to check in around 7 pm hoping to drop off our luggage and get the shuttle to pick us up after we dropped off the rental car. We were told the shuttle was totally booked but they would probably do something around 8 pm. After waiting in the lobby for a while with the shuttle not returning, my DH decided he would drop the car off and walk back. It was ~ a 20 minute walk and that was the better direction to walk as it was downhill. We arranged for the shuttle to take us to the train the following morning at 5:30 am and went to our room for the rest of the night.
The setting was a little remote if you don't have a car but we were were happy with this hotel.

I thought this hotel was a little pricey for a Comfort Inn. I liked seeing all the fishermen on Ship Creek. I heard the hotel will loan guests fishing rods but we didn't partake. We actually stayed here because of it's close proximity to the Alaska Rail train station. It was an easy walk right down the street, that is, if you don't have mobility issues or a lot of luggage. Note if either of those are a concern, the hotel shuttle will drive you to the train station if requested. Our room was pleasant and the hotel was fine. My only gripe about this hotel is that I thought there was a regularly scheduled shuttle to and from the airport, after retrieving my luggage and waiting 10 minutes without seeing a shuttle I called the hotel and was told that I needed to request the shuttle and it would take 15-20 mins to arrive. The shuttle arrived later than that. We had to wait an additional 45 mins for a shuttle that was promised in a 15-20 minute timeframe, if I had known that I would wait almost an hour for the shuttle I would have just taken a cab. The van was full so some passengers were unable to board. They had to wait until the van and driver returned to the airport after dropping us off.

This hotel was suggested by our Alaskan land tour travel agent and were glad she did. Comfortable rooms (with special anniversary upgrade on return visit), great guidance on dining and sightseeing, convenient shuttle service to and from airport, luggage storage until evening of the day of departure and free shuttle to airport that night (for red-eye flight!). Oh, near train depot and shuttle for Denali train. They know what they are doing and had room assignments and key cards in envelopes for independent travelers when train arrived late (would you believe due to slower train travel due to heated rails because of heat, in Alaska?!). Excellent choice.

If you are looking for a fantastic stay in Anchorage, this is the place. Very friendly staff, clean, comfortable rooms, great location. Everything you need. Breakfast was excellent. Shuttle to take you wherever you want, and right beside Ship Creek to watch the salmon being caught by the locals. You can even borrow fishing equipment at the hotel to try your luck.
Watch for shuttle driver Cami. She is great ambassador for the city. She is amazing!

Great hotel with VERY helpful and friendly staff. Only a short 10 minute walk to downtown. There is a slight hill you climb when going to town but there are sidewalks the entire route. The entire hotel was spotless and behind the hotel is a stream where you can salmon fish.
