“A treasure”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2013

After a 36 hour flight from Australia the last thing you want is a hold up checking in. This was not the case here the night staff were excellent and only got better in the day time. Never stayed at a Voyager Hotel before so didnt know what to expect. Was pleasently surprised it was lovely the rooms were big and offered great views of Anchorage, the cleaning staff did an excellent job, and the breakfast was a mix of hot and cold with as much as you like. Staff fantastic and knowledgeable, we could have not asked for a better start to our USA holiday. Hotel has a laundry for guests to use and is very close to the main street. Would certainly recommend this hotel and its friendly staff. You made Anchorage

PROS: good downtown location near bike rental and coastal trail. Free parking from 5 pm to 9 am in lot across street, and discounted parking for next day. Guest laundry. Large rooms. Friendly staff. Free continental breakfast, but see below.
CONS: Travel is stressful enough without having to figure out a hotel with two names. "Rodeway Inn" on the big sign on the building, but the main door, closed, says "For Lease." The side door sign says "Voyager Inn." Whoa, where are we? Please, hotel, pick one name for all your signs.
Decor rather tired and old. Halls very narrow. Free continental breakfast lacks cereal, orange juice, fresh fruit, tables, and chairs! I think price too high for what you get.

We stayed for 2 nights after a small ship cruise while on our way to Denali, then again for one night on our way back home. This plain looking property has nearly everything we could want.

The property has an excellent location, just across the street from the the Captain Cook Hotel and just a few blocks from shopping, galleries, restaurants, Starbucks, performing arts center, etc. There is parking just across the street, $10/24 hrs, with in and out.

The building is a plain rectangle with virtually no signage. A short walk up a ramp leads to the reception. All the staff we dealt with were friendly, professional and efficient. They provided advice, printed driving directions, and put highlights on the map. The lobby has a small business center, a rack of brochures, and a small breakfast room. The free continental breakfast was the only minor disappointment: some cold cereals, instant oatmeal mix, OJ, some Danish and bagels. I suggest picking up a few breakfast items at a local convenience store or grocery, and give the free breakfast a miss.

Our room, 408, was ready for early check-in. It faced west over to Cook Inlet, and had a large opening French door. It was HUGE, spotless, everything working, including black-out drapes and air conditioning. There was a queen bed, a pull-out bed/sofa, chairs, work desk with multiple electric outlets to get charged up, free WiFi, 46" flat screen TV, ample closet with hangers, kitchenette with microwave, small refrig, and real glass glasses and china coffee cups. More utensils are available on request. The bathroom was large, shower was excellent, toilet flushed well. For $7 you can use the pool/fitness center at the Captain Cook Hotel.

So, if you want an elegant lobby, doormen, thick robes, etc. do not stay here. If you want a large, comfortable room with kitchenette, conveniently located, with reasonable parking, and fairly priced, THIS IS THE PLACE!

Room Tip: 408 top floor, faced the water, was close to elevator, but very quiet.

We stayed in the Rodeway inn for three nights, it's a clean comfortable hotel, the room's decor could do with an update but the bed was so comfortable and warm and the room was huge with a sitting area and small kitchenette. It's in a great position, walking distance to plenty of good restaurants and shops and the Tony Knowles Trail. The staff were all lovely and helpful and the free shuttle to the airport was a great bonus. Breakfast was pretty basic but it was complimentary. I'd stay here again it was very enjoyable.

Great location in Anchorage Downtown. Is at walking distance from all major attractions. I stay two differents nights and both rooms were clean. The room 401 have a great water view, kichenette, living room and is big. The room 115 have one bed, refrigerator, coffee maker and is next to the front desk. Breakfast is a free perk I always look for; consist bagels, pastries, oatmeal, boil eggs, coffee, orange juice, hot chocolate, cream cheese and butter. Parking is not free but is less than $10 if you buy the pass at the front desk. If you go to be parked less than 2hrs front desk have a pass for free. The shuttle is every hour but you need to register at the front desk.

Room Tip: Room 401 is great

It was not an encouraging start when the reception staff denied any knowledge of the fact that we would check in early, having just come off a cruise ship at Whittier early in the morning. However, the reception staff were very helpful and friendly and found us a room.
The hotel, however, is shabby and looks in need of redecoration and new carpets throughout the public areas.
Our room was better. It was big with a double bed and a pull out double couch and a kitchenette.
However, the decor was tired and, like the hotel itaelf, could do with some tlc. The wifi was excellent and bathroom adequate.
The staff could not have been more helpful and the fact that the hotel ran a courtesy bus to the airport 24 / 7 was a big attraction and the main reason why we had stayed there. It was less expensive than the big name, branded hotels nearby and adequate for one short day

Good location as opposite much more expensive Captain Cook hotel.
Was allocated a disabled room for no particular reason and is located on ground floor and next to reception and laundry but these points did not cause noise problems. The room was well appointed and very roomy. All staff very friendly. There is a shuttle bus for train and plane connections but must be booked and times are set.
A basic breakfast available in lobby is provided.
Anyone visiting Anchorage must visit KStreet Convenience Store which is opposite this hotel. A real gem for snacks, pizza odds and ends
