I have been coming to the Captain Cook Hotel for quite some time. On this trip I was given a room in tower 2. Convenient to the garage parking, restaurant, business center and front desk. Ask for this tower if on business. My room was nice but there was no hot water both mornings of my stay. This hotel is rated a preferred hotel which is surprising due to current issues. To say something nice, Fletchers Restaurant is my favorite part with excellent servers and bartenders. That part I can rave about. The hotel is all wooden and has paintings through out and is definatley old school but nice. Heres the drawbacks. The hotel is expensive but you get what you pay for. Location is great.

The hotel claims they will credit you 500 miles for Alaska. I have not seen one come throuh on my account for the many stays I have had there. That would be a draw back if you like to earn your miles. Also the staff was pretty unresponsive about it and I had to send in two complaints with no resolution to this day. Most recent letter July 6th. Also, if you make internet reservations, save a copy of the reservation. On my last two trips I was overcharged and had to put the front desk person to a challenge to fix it.
Overall, nice property and good restaurants but dont expect to get star treatment or fast response. I think I go back for the location and the fact some of the staff actually do a great job. Overall this last experience was not good.

The hotel was decorated with a nautical theme with comfortable, nicely appointed rooms. We did request a view of the inlet but instead got a few of downtown. The service in the Whales Tail restaurant was very slow even though it didn't appear to be packed with customers. They tended to appear rushed and understaffed for the meals we had there. Everyone was very friendly and accomodating however, but if you want a quick meal this isn't the place to go. There don't seem to be very many breakfast restaurants close by. We tried to eat at the Snow City Cafe but they had a one hour wait for breakfast.
We had problems with our in room movie service for two nights and with lots of phone calls finally were able to purchase a movie. Because of the inconvenience caused us they sent a complimentary bottle of wine, and chocolate covered strawberries to our room!! Now, that is great customer service.
A two night stay in this hotel was a very nice ending for an alaskan cruise.

We stayed here before and after a cruise ( utterly awesome - go before the ice glaciers melt!) and were very impressed by the starightforward nature of the hotel - nice clean rooms, good and reasonably priced food and a nice "can do" attitude from the staff. We were in rooms which had great views which added to the experience. From a location point of view it was excellent - with all the shops and restaurants being in easy walking distance. Would happily return although do be prepared - its a pretty big hotel and there does seem to be a lot of cruise passengers and airline staff but that seems to be a small price to pay!!

We checked in on Saturday afternoon, the desk clerk gave us a wonderful dinner recommendation at a nearby restaurant where the locals meet. The Captain Cook is in a wonderful location for walking around downtown Anchorage with great views of the Cook Inlet and the tides.

I stayed at this hotel a couple days ago. It had a great location, close to shopping, the waterfront, and restaurants. Glacier Brewhouse, Orso, Snow City Cafe were within two blocks. And the Crow's Nest was right in the hotel, although it was closed when we were there. Also there is a bike rental place a block or so away to ride the coastal trail. Check-in was pretty painless. They had thick terry cloth robes in the rooms and the view was great from the Captain's Deck. The breakfast consisted of juices, bacon, eggs, toast, and bagels as well as yogurt. It was not that easy to park on the street, but they gave you a parking voucher for free parking during your stay. The one drawback is that the hot tub and indoor pool were difficult to find and no one explained to us as to how to get there. The pool was like an Olympic size pool once we found it, but it was very confusing. They do have a computer so you can print your boarding pass for the way home, but you have to ask them where it is to find it.
