“Great place to stay and celebrate!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 18, 2013

We chose to celebrate our 40th Anniversary at the Hotel Captain Cook. We come here often and are pleased each time. The check in and out goes smoothly. The staff are friendly and helpful. The rooms are in perfect shape and very clean. We had a corner king deluxe room on the 17th floor. The view was breathtaking. We ate breakfast in the Pantry and enjoyed great service and food.
Even used the steam room, sauna and jacuzzi!!
Kudos to the management and staff for helping us create a memorable weekend.

Room Tip: This is by far the best hotel in Anchorage. The higher floors are quiet and have great views of eith...

If you want to splurge, the Captain Cook is the place to do it. Comfortable rooms with nice soft beds, excellent menu choices in the restaurants, within easy walking distance of fun nightlife, and an old-fashioned men's health club to die for! Free access for hotel guests. The steam room is fabulous. There's also a hot tub to go with a nice locker room area and large workout space complete with free weights, universal equipment, treadmills, stationary bikes, TVs, etc. It may be a bit pricey, but for the business traveler this place is the best.

Room Tip: Naturally, you would prefer an upper floor with view of the ocean and Mt. McKinley

I went to high school in Anchorage & spent 14 years there. My wife brought me to California & I like it a lot but we return once a year to visit friends. We always stay at the Capt Cook. Friendly staff, good food & drink with nice rooms. The best in Alaska!

Everyone was super helpful when I checked in and throughout my stay. Housekeeping was great. The only thing that was a little crazy was the lobby set up. The bed was amazingly comfortable. I didn't get a chance to go to any of the restaurant bars, but I can't wait to go back and have some wine at the Whale's Tale (Tail).

This is the nicest hotel in anchorage, bar none. Great downtown location, very nice rooms, but also probably the most expensive. I've only stated here on business, and probably wouldn't pay for it myself, I usually stay elsewhere when I am on my own.

We stayed at the Captain Cook last weekend. We have a 18 month old baby. We called and asked if they have a pack-n-play. We were told they do, but when we arrived, they instead had a metal crib. The metal crib has a very stiff sleeping mat. Our baby woke up crying every hour all night. (She usually sleeps 12 hours non-stop through the night at hotels in a pack-n-play.) Then, to top it off, at 6am we got an accidental "wake-up" call from the front desk. (The manager confirmed it was a mistake by the front desk staff. I wonder if the person who was supposed to receive the wake-up call missed his/her flight?) We switched hotels the next day to the Anchorage Marriott, where we had a great time.

Dear Stella089,

Thank you for staying at The Hotel Captain Cook. I am sorry that you didn't enjoy your stay.
We do offer cribs and also extra blankets and pillows to help comfort all small travelers. I was hoping you could let me know where you saw that we had a specific brand of crib advertised or who told you we did. This will help with training because we never want to advertise or offer something we do not have. My email is guestservices@captaincook.com and I'd love to hear back from you at your convenience. Thank you and may you find great escapes always!.

Sincerely,

I have been at this hotel a number of times- but suddenly something has changed- for the better. The staff is more attentive, a lot more. They are renovating the rooms, and there is a new attitude.
When we arrived, while it was about 2 a.m. - and room service was closed, they offered to get us a burger (my favorite).
Every time we called and requested something they were attentive, as well as fast.
Room service was 14 minute average!
Wireless in the room appears to have improved.
