There's nothing like standing at the shore of Lake Hood Harbor and watching a float plane come in over your left shoulder and land on the water. Its exciting, exhiliarating and just plain fun. Imagine having that feeling every 5-10 minutes with a neverending view of planes taxiing in and out of the lake, coming to shore to load 55-gallon cans of fuel, and taking off again and you get a sense of what it's like to watch the float planes take off and land at Lake Hood Harbor. Add to that watching actual passenger planes take off and land in the background from Ted Stevens International Airport and you've got an idea of how spending time at Lake Hood is like watching the history of aviation fly right before your eyes. It's a really enjoyable time. Anyone who says that 'the best things in life are free' is a thing of the past hasn't been to Lake Hood Harbor. It's a don't miss on your trip to Anchorage. You have a great view from the patio of the Millenium Hotel if you're there long enough to need a drink and a bite to eat.
