“$10 Gets a "Dog-ride"”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 26, 2014

The HQ is in Wasilla, ~20' out of Anchorage. They actually use race dogs to train them during summer. It is about a 10' ride and you can say "I did it"!

“Not a lot here”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 15, 2014

Good info spot...not really a lot to offer though. Friendly star. Small gift shop, nice video about the dos and mushers. They do have a cart that is pulled by a team of dogs for ten dollars per person...not really comparable to riding a real sled.

“Learn the History--Enjoy the Dogs”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2014

First a disclaimer, I do volunteer on the Iditarod Race Committee during the race, taking the musher/dog in/out information from the checkpoints, putting it in the Iditarod database, and posting to the website. That being said, last month my wife and I visited the Iditarod Headquarters in Wasilla, Alaska again. At the headquarters, visitors view a wonderful film that explains mushing, the sled dog culture, and introduces visitors to some of the greatest athletes in the world. The building has a number of memorabilia items, but the best is the sled dogs outside. Visitors can get up close and personal with these athletes and mushers that care for them. The dogs are there most days, unless it's too hot for them (in Alaska this is up in the 70's and above). For $10 you can go for a short sled dog ride and see first hand how joyfully the dogs run and pull the ATV . Usually the musher in attendance is Ramey Reddington, the son of the Father of the Iditarod, Joe Reddington, so you can go away with a great history lesson on dog sledding in Alaska.
