“Fairbanks to anchorage”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 14, 2013

Fantastic. Beautiful scenery and very comfortable. We wish the plane could be as comfy. The staff were always present and trying to point things out. Definitely recommend.

“Take the train!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 6, 2013

We love the train. The depots (at both Fairbanks and Anchorage) are well-kept, very clean, and have info sprinkled around. It is very pleasant to look around while waiting for your train to arrive.

“A nice surprise”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 15, 2013

We took the railroad from Anchorage to area south of there to take a boat to see the glaciers. It was very early in the morning and the sun which really had not set because it was in late may early June was yet still coming up on the horizon. In front were water ways with massive forest to the left. The tracks seemed to disappear off in the distance. It was so beautiful & quite at the same time. We had a wonderful day seeing the glaciers with some that broke off hitting the water with a great force that it rocked the boat. It was on the way back from a fantastic day that the train slow down. I looked to see what it was & was able to not only see but tape a big bear crossing the tracks. Later on some time down the way we slowed & stopped again this time to let us see moose crossing the tracks & sight some eating off a ways to the side. There is a healthy respect for the wild life in Alaska like I've never seen anywhere else before. The railroad is careful not to run into any animals as much as possible which allow us tourist to enjoy the beauty & wonder of these creatures!
Another thing that we discovered not so much on that trip but on the trip coming from Denali going back to Anchorage was the food on board. It was a total surprise to find out that there was a lot more than old sandwiches & chips! My husband had a wonderful salmon cream soup with sauté veggies. I had a carabao burger with veggies. Both were wonderful. I later got a chance to visit with the cook. A young man native to Alaska he explained that all his life he wanted to do what he was doing now on the train. He went to one of the CIA schools down in the lower states as they call it in order to come back & cook gourmet food for the railroad. What a surprise!! We ate 2 different meals on our way back to Anchorage while enjoying unbelievable scenery along the way!
So as you may gather, taking a trip on the Alaskan railroad is a big treat & is very well worth it! Hope you get the chance! We've seen Alaska & Hawaii & I have to say they are about equal in my book. Just big & beautiful!!!!!!
P. S. the date I marked below is as far back as they go on this form. The trip I just told you about was in late may/early June of 2009. We were very blessed to have wonderful weather which doesn't always happen. I hope you have a wonderful weather trip . Good sight seeing!

If you are a railroad buff you will see t his anyway. If not- it is worth seeing the station, and knowing what it was like years ago. Take the trip- btw - and see some of Alaska

“A Bit of Old Alaska”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 14, 2013

This is a great place for the tourist to Alaska to visit. The depot is in great condition and the train rides are amazing! I highly recommend the Anchorage to Fairbanks (summer or winter - do both) 12-hour train ride. A must do for everyone.
