“Awesome adventure! Cold water!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 21, 2013

My son & I took this rafting trip & had a blast. It could if been better if the 3 women on board with us had stuck to NOT coming! One fell overboard and saving her made us crash into the rocks. Our guide, Scotty, was awesome, experienced and funny. Keep in mind, there is age limits for these trips so don't plan to bring a young child or even a teen who is not a good swimmer!

If plan plan to do this next spring (their season is over for this year), plan to wear LAYERS of clothing, including thermals. They supply the dry suit, helmet and shoes. Your clothes stay dry. You have to pass a "swim test", which personally, I didn't think much of. The water was @ 3-4 feet and they wanted me to "swim" from point "A" to point "B" pretty difficult to do for a tall person!

There is a hot tub you can bring your swimsuit in get into after the rafting - we didn't bother with it but it's option -

You need to pay close attention to what they tell you, with rowing & especially if you fall in!! We did not do the 3 canyon - which is $50 more - just due to our time constraints but the 6 mile 2 canyon was scenic, fun and COLD!!!

“Highlight of our Alaska trip!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2013

Six of us signed up to do the 2 canyon ($99) whitewater river rafting trip at 9AM. What an experience - it was an amazing opportunity to raft through Six Mile Creek and awe at the great Alaskan nature... the waterfalls, the mountains, trees, Bald Eagles...

Our guide, Brandon, was really great. He was funny, really knowledgeable, and very patient. We were pretty sure that at least 2 of us had failed the "swimming test" in the beginning. But lo and behold, nope! That was great news to begin with.

Anyways, it was great and the highlight of our trip. We ended up doing the 3 canyon trip (an additional $51) and it is totally totally worth it. We learned about different birds, the names of the different rapids (A**hole Destroyer).

A photo CD is $75, which is a little pricey, but if there are more than 2 or 3 of you it's not that much.

They give you a helmet, shoes, a drysuit, and a life vest. Bring wool socks, clothes that quickly dry (you will probably still get wet), and a change of clothes.

Also, there's no cell phone reception for a majority of the drive from Seward Highway to this place, so if you need to call them to tell them you're late, do it in advance. It took around 2 hours from Anchorage with 2 stops along Turnagain Arm for photos.

The bathroom is an outhouse but there is a changing room there.

“Great adventure in the "shoulder season!"”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 25, 2013

What a great experience. We were very impressed with the staff, who made sure that having fun was just a touch behind safety as a priority for our trip. Tommy did a great job as our guide. Since it is considered the shoulder season, not much of a crowd for out trip - only 6, all of whom went in one boat. We had Mudflap as our safety guide, and he was assisted by Melissa, who was in training, both of whom were in oar boats. Since we had such a small group and two safety boats, it seemed we had extra insurance. The rapids were spectacular. I liked the way that the three canyons built in difficulty so we got some good training by the time we experienced Class V rapids. We would definitely do this excursion with Chugach Outdoor Center again if we make it back to this area.

“Outstanding Alaska Adventure”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 11, 2013

We selected this trip as a celebration event for our daughters 16th birthday. This was one the most exciting summer activities we did this year. Our guide was "Mudflap" and is one of the best on the river, provided an afternoon of safe, exciting, as well as entertaining adventure; highly recommended. The company exhibited a highly trained and experienced stff and program with a river swim test, with all gear on. This was a bit of a challenge but it also provided confidence in that if u did fall in the river during the excursion you know what to do first hand and it will not be a surprise. It also provides the guide an assessment of the boat crew (you) capability before going onto the last leg, optional, class 5 rapid. We didn't do the last leg this season on our first trip...save it for our return next year! Go have fun!
