“huge dissapointment”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed July 2, 2013

This was one of the worst ways to end a fantastic trip through Canada and Alaska. When we arrived we were informed it would be another 3 hours at least before the room would be ready. The first night there, we noticed it was above 80 degrees in our room. I made 2 calls to the office with no response. Sunday at 8 a.m. we were awoken by the construction workers immediately outside of our window, which we had opened due to the temperature. Sunday evening I went to the office personally and was told there wasn't anyone available to check on it at the time. When someone finally came to check on it, we were told that no-one would be available until the following day to repair it.
I paid over $380 for 2 nights for a room with no air conditioner during the worst heat wave Alaska has seen in over 15 years. The amount of money for a room that was not comfortable and being awoken early on a vacation, was definitely a HUGE dissapointment!

We stayed at this hotel on three occasions.

Each time, we enjoyed the cleanliness and the convenient location on the outer edge of the downtown area. We could walk to many attractions and amenities, and not worry about parking. Because the hotel is next to a cemetery, there was less city traffic noise.

However, each time, the check-ins were slow. One of the check-ins took nearly 1 hour.

The rooms had plenty of towels, the two beds had good linen, and we enjoyed the fully-equipped kitchen, complete with full-size fridge, dishes, and appliances. However, the TV was lousy. On some channels, the volume was very loud; on others, it was like listening to whispers, no matter how high we turned up the volume.

The manager was friendly and helpful. During our second stay, the bathroom sink was clogged, and the toilet would run spontaneously on and off all night. When we checked out, the manager was at the desk and asked how our night went. We told her about these problems, and she kindly offered us a discounted rate for our next stay.

For our third stay, we walked-in and asked if we could redeem the discounted offer. The man at the desk said the computers were slow and needed more time to find a room. Then, after he found a room, he wasn't sure if the room was clean, and had to go to it to check. His colleague asked him to look at another room for a different guest. When he came back down, he told us that we had to wait some more before we could enter our room. The whole process took nearly an hour.

We stayed at this hotel for one night, and although we in general liked the environment of this place, I felt like we could do better. A few things annoyed me. One, there is no free parking and you have to pay $10 for a parking permit. Even worse, they sold out the parking permit when I got here because they have very limited parking space (my estimate is around 20). You will have to find a parking meter to park. Fortunately for me we arrived at Friday night so the parking meters were free just outside the hotel.

Second, we were surprised to find out that there was a strong smoking smell in the room. I asked the lady at the front desk and she apologized and said they don't distinguish smoking and non-smoking room at this hotel. This means as a customer you don't get to choose which room you want when you book it, and you will get a random room when you check in. So keep this in mind if you care about smoking smell.

Third, the breakfast option here is really limited. Instead of a continental breakfast, they have coffee, hot chocolate and some granola bars, a few apples and some muffins. And it's grab-and-go style.

We booked a room with two queen beds and a small kitchen, and it costed us a little over $100. So it was a good deal, except for the few things above. All in all, if you are only here for one of two nights and don't really care about the things I said, then this is a good place to stay. It is a little far away from the downtown area, which is not that busy anyway, and you can easily find some good place to eat around the hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that is far away from the street. There are very loud noise coming from the street du...

1) upon check in from reservation made early April was informed room had been changed to a king bed and that it would be A SMOKING room. Only after a lengthy discussion that this wad totally unacceptable did we get a non smoking room. Clerk - I guess I will make someone else mad- 2). Wife called desk to let them know her flight from MSP was delayed until after midnite and to delay shuttle pickup to then. Desk -OK. Later to find out shettle service stops at 11 pm. - she had to take taxi. 3). Breakfast offering is the most minimal I have seen in years of travel

As always being said, it is nice to be great, but it is greater to be nice. Ken is a very friendly and helpful guy. He is ready to solve all the problems you might have. Since I had to change my rooms twice to stay with my travel group, I had the chance to get to know him. He said he had lived in Anchorage for his entire life. I was surprise to see that long dark winter had not be able to change his sunny smile. Nice guy.

I stayed at this property the first week of June and enjoyed my stay. A short couple of blocks to downtown and the staff were friendly. Breakfast was muffins and some other snacks. Parking during the weekend is free on the street and that is we're I parked instead of lot. I would recommend highly for the price and location

To start off says it is downtown but you have to walk a few blocks before downtown. Every little thing is a extra fee. No daily cleaning. Charge you to take pool towels to room. Pool is very small. Beds are like sleeping on a blowup mattress. When you sit on the bed they fold in half. Pillows are so thin like they have been washed a thousand times. No black out curtains for summer time when the sun is up for many hours of the night. Shuttle only to the airport and you have to give them 24 hour notice if you want to use it. If you misplace their parking pass they charge you $30.
