One essential item that any hotel you stay in during the summer months in Anchorage is the ability to obtain darkness. The curtains at this hotel really do keep the light out of the room.
This hotel is very comfortable - from the hotel staff, to the room, and to the bed itself. Sure, it's like any other Hilton hotel, but this one is relatively new (or at least it has been renovated). The hotel staff is very friendly and helpful, and this is what differentiates this hotel from the other in the chain.
There is a business center with two desktop computers and several ethernet cables to hook up a laptop. They are currently remodeling the gym, and it is set to open up in May 2008. The restaurant in the lobby has a really good buffet breakfast with an omelet station and fresh fruit. Albeit expensive, it's a great way to start off your day if you plan on trekking around Alaska.
We have status with Hilton, so we were on the HHonors floor. We also had access to the executive lounge, but it is only open during the weekdays. Since we were there on the weekend, the front desk gave us complimentary coupons to have breakfast in the lobby restaurant.
The location of the hotel is pretty nice. During the summer months, there is an outdoor market right across the street (which was recommended to us by a local) where you can get fresh local food. If you want to experience the Anchorage nightlife, there are many bars and clubs within a block of the hotel - there's one across the street and one within the hotel complex itself. If you're visiting the convention center, it is only two blocks away.
The parking garage was pretty hard to find, but parking is free on the street pat 6:00pm on Friday until Monday morning.
So overall, we had a great time in the hotel. If you have any questions about staying here, don't. This is a great hotel to stay in when visiting Anchorage!
