“Great downtown Anchorage wine focused Bistro”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 7, 2014

This is a terrific downtown Anchorage Bistro with a focus on wine/food pairings. Wonderfully creative food is served with smiles in a friendly atmosphere. Chef George created a "double" corn chowder to die for. Desserts are heavenly. Give Crush a try. You won't be disappointed.

“A Welcome Surprise”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 7, 2014

We walked 5-6 blocks to this restaurant on the recommendation of a Holland America guest services employee at the Anchorage Hilton. We were tired, had no luggage as yet, and didn't want hotel food. CRUSH was just what we needed. Small (seats about 30 inside, and has sidewalk tables if you're so inclined; I never am because I don't want to eat alongside concrete and cars), and a bit loud. Obviously a place younger locals like, and you can see why. The menu was fresh and creative without being twee or precious. I had the stuffed dates and a pork empanada--both beautifully presented and delicious. SO had the crab gratinee and, while at first the serving seemed small, its richness proved it to be the right amount. Very good wines are available by the glass at very reasonable prices for Alaska, and our server, who had an injured foot and was in a bit of pain, nevertheless provided us with good recommendations and took the time to explain the wines and menu items so that we would make the best choices for our tastes. And she hit the mark every time. I wish I could remember her name, because she deserves recognition.

“Good food”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 30, 2014

I had the Chicken Focaccia Sandwich. Very tasty. A couple of friends ordered the mac and cheese, only to be told they were out, so don't get too excited about what you order. I usually get pretty annoyed when something like this happens. We ordered around 1:30p, so I would not think we were that late for lunch. Not the fastest service either. But I would go back again and recommend to others. Menu here: http://crushak.com/eat

“Interesting wines & food, and a friendly scene”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 25, 2014

Anchorage's young, educated professionals, along with a few tourists, gather at this downtown wine bar to sip from a good selection of wines, and dine on a remarkably creative set of "specials". The crowd of mostly locals is friendly, interesting, and talkative. This is the kind of place where you can sit at the bar, and be reasonably confident you will make two or three new friends before you leave. The crowd was mostly 20 and 30-somethings, but there were folks in to their 60's as well, all having a great time.

Along with the wine tasting, they offer a menu of appetizers, along with few "specials" that are really complete meals. The specials list isn't big, but it is creative and interesting, making this place not only a good wine tasting venue, but also a great spot for a not-too-expensive dinner.

During our visit (May 2014) we saw some construction outside and at first thought the place was closed. But it was open, packed, and they even had a gaggle of people out on the patio. So don't be afraid of the construction; come on in and enjoy the fun!

“A great place to un-"wined"”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 13, 2014

Fabulous food, wines and service! Crush achieves these by employing people who truly like what they are doing and sharing their knowledge of the foods and wines they serve. And the owners unpretentious passion for great food & wine reflects in the way they treat their customers! No wine snobbery here - just lots of helpful, fun advice for picking the wine and meal to make your night!
