“Fantastic holiday in wonderful surroundings”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2012 for a stay in September 2012

Val d Argent is a beautiful gite in the heart of the Loire countryside. The owners Gerard and Claudine are very attentive hosts. They were always on hand if there was a problem and Gerard would check the pool daily. They also arranged for us to have a personal tour of a local vineyard with wine tasting - which was very enjoyable!
The gite was perfect for our group of 6 adults and a 2 year old. There are 3 double bedded rooms and a mezanine with 2 single beds, in one of the double rooms there was a cot bed which was ideal for our 2 year old. The swimming pool is excellent and was always at a good temperature. With it being indoor/outdoor if the weathers bad you can still go for a swim. The weather was good for most of our 10 day stay and we spent most days and evenings enjoying the gardens, the stars at night are amazing! There are also bikes and a table tennis table which we also enjoyed using. Our 2 year old also thought the swings and play cars were great!
There are plenty of places to visit close by and local markets. The gite is remote but that is what we wanted, and to wake up and look over the sweetcorn and sunflower fields is beautiful.
I cannot rate the gite and its owners highly enough and look forward to returning soon.

“Family stay at Val D'Argent”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 16, 2012 for a stay in August 2012

There were 3 generations stayed and we had a fabulous time at Val D'Argent and our hosts Gerard and Claudine were so helpful throughout our stay. The property was perfect for our family needs. It was safe and enclosed for the children with several areas to play, (one of the children learned to ride a bike on one of the many made available). Then there was the pool!. It was amazing, it was an indoor pool which was in a sort of greenhouse but all sides could be opened. We all spent a lot of time in there. The gardens were beautiful with several choices of eating areas dotted about, dpending on whether you wanted sunshine or shade.
The Gite itself was lovely with plenty of space. There was a lovely big lounge, a huge dining room, kitchen and a large conversatory with bedrooms and bathrooms on both floors. There was a dishwasher, microwave and washing machine plus plenty of crockery. The bedrooms were all good sizes as were the two bathrooms, showers weren't brilliant but baths were very good.
It was a few kilometres to the nearest shops but that was no hardship as there was very little traffic. There are several vineyards in the area and Gerard organsised a visit to one for us - very enjoyable! The Zoo at Doue La Fontaine was something else! It is most definitely worth a visit. There is a childrens adventure park very nearby, also a water park which we didn't visit as the children just wanted to be in the pool at the gite. There are many troglodyte caves in the area and chateaux, Montreiul Bellay was very lovely as was the Abbey at Fontrevaud, worth a visit to see the tomb of Richard the Lionheart. There is so much more to see and do in the area which is why we will revisit the area and would recommend the Val D'Argent for a stay.
I would recommend a good phrase book if you don't speak French especially for eating out as ducks liver in all shapes and forms tends to be on the menu. Also useful for visting areas as not many have English translations. For me though I enjoyed the area so much I am going to learn French to improve my experience more.

“Amazing holiday at the Val d'argent”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 13, 2011 for a stay in August 2011

We stayed at Val d'argent for 2 weeks in August. A family of 4 and our dog Bonnie the Jack Russell. It was a long drive down from Calais (6 hours) but I guess we should not have been surprised as it was on a Saturday in the peak August holiday period. Although saying that, the drive was considerably quicker on the return journey.
Once we arrived at the Gite, our travel weariness disappeared instantly. As we were confronted with a wonderful house in a fantastic setting. The lovely landscaped gardens were set off with an amazing new swimming pool built by the owner Gerard earlier in the year. Our dog Bonnie had vast amounts of gardens to investigate due to it all being fenced in, she was very safe and secure.
The Gite (house) is very big, with a large lounge & dining room. We spent much of our time in the conservatory, or in one of the many patioed or BBQ areas outside. The house has 2 large bathrooms with sleeping for up to 8.
The owners Gerard & Claudine reside in a property near by, they were the perfect hosts and made our holiday that much better. Gerard would clean the pool every day and carry out any jobs necessary around the grounds. They made us feel very welcome, Gerard even arranged for a personal wine tasting tour of a local vineyard. They also invited us out one evening to join them at a local snail fete in an adjoining village. There generosity even extended to supplying us with fresh eggs and home grown produce.
Our teenage boys (14 &15) had no end of fun in the private swimming pool, playing table tennis, basketball, boules and riding the bikes that Gerard provided.
The only negatives for the holiday (well I'm scraping the barrel here but) the location is very remote. No boulangerie or other small shops for about 4 miles, too far too walk as much of the journey is up hill and secondly the house could do with a small spring clean as there were many cobwebs loitering in the corners of the rooms.
Overall a brilliant holiday in a great location with fantastic hosts.
