“More than Moules Frites”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 9, 2013

My daughter and I adored this place's moules frites and insisted that the whole family join us for a meal there; they did and it was great. This was a couple of years ago. This summer my wife and I returned and thought the lunch menu was very nice; we made our choices and found the food reasonably priced, well prepared, and pleasantly served. Definitely one of the restaurants at this harbor to visit.

“OK – fair value for France - but food was nothing special”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 4, 2013

Five of us ate there recently. The restaurant was quite full when we arrived but we were quickly found a table. 4 of us had the three course menu for 19.90 Euros and it was fair value. The starters included oysters, goat’s cheese salad and fish soup. For main course two of us had brochettes of beef, which were cooked just as we wanted and the portion was quite generous. Two of the others had salmon which was a bit overcooked and nothing special. The sauce was a bit too creamy. The fifth main course was duck breast from the a la carte menu. The portion size was good, though it was a bit pricey at 17 Euros. There was a fair selection of desserts. The carafes of white and red wine were reasonably priced at 11 Euros a litre. The wine was supposedly local and it was very drinkable. The service was a touch erratic though extra bread was brought when it was asked for. The atmosphere was busy and quite enjoyable.

“Average”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 1, 2013

We came for dinner on our first night in Marseillan. A Tuesday in October so some places were closed and we were in the mood for moules. Keen to dune on oysters we were disappointed with the quality and freshness, given the location next the Etang de Thau. The mussels were pleasant enough. We did not stay for dessert

“Great position, food average”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 27, 2013

The restaurant is situated by the harbour, good for people watching, very pleasant aspect. We found the food average, the menu looked interesting but didn't live up to expectations, a starter described as a millefeuille of tomatoes etc ended up as a few slices of tomatoes arranged across a plate. When we came to pay using a UK debit card the waitress cancelled the transaction and pretended the card had been declined - we visited an ATM a few minutes later and withdrew money with no problem. Wouldn't return to this particular restaurant but would return to Marseillan port and beach as we love the area.

“Only sunny intervals”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2013

Unlike its name the O Soleil didn't shine for us that much. Its a reasonable value, reasonable quality eatery. It does benefit from a pleasant position on the Marseillan quayside but for us that wasn't enough to compensate for a patchy couple of meals. My wife's brochette was very good but my chicken dish was very ordinary, for instance. The service was brisk rather than attentive. If you eat here I suspect you'll leave thinking, "that was OK, not bad but not outstanding"
