We enjoyed our stay here. The room was well appointed, it was quiet, and the location is good - restaurants and shops within walking distance, a good park nearby for exercise, and Seattle within easy reach by car or bus. The staff is friendly and professional, food is good, and the common living area is inviting. The only concerns are (1) the inn is located half way up a hill and the stairs are steep (would be tough for elderly or infirm people) and (2) some of the local area is a bit trashed by students. But the inn itself, and the staff, is very good.

Room Tip: Rooms in the back are probably cooler in summer and quieter. Though the hillside setting removes a l...

We so enjoyed our stay at the Chambered Nautilus. At time of booking, couldn't get in Friday night, but they put us on a waiting list, and we were relieved to be contacted with an opening. Spent the first night in the Northwest Chamber, then they moved to the Cascade Suite for the rest of our stay. The house is warm and welcoming, and grounds covered with beautiful flowers. The owner and staff were friendly and professional and went out of their way to chat with us and help us find nearby restaraunts. All of the breakfasts were tasty, and we enjoyed our table mates very much. The Northwest Chamber was small but very cute with a nice layout and porch. The Cascade Suite was a comfortable 2 bedroom apartment. Compared to a basic hotel room with a "free breakfast" this is a much better deal!

We just returned from a lovely trip to Seattle. Our stay at The Chambered Nautilus was delightful. The staff was kind and attentive and very helpful. The breakfasts were heavenly.and the Inn itself was cozy and lovely. Or room was very large, very private and we had everything we needed....even our own private rooftop deck!! We would definitely stay there again!! Thank you to everyone at The Chambered Nautilus!!

I have stayed in dozens of B&Bs and this was definitely not one of my favorites.

Pros:
Pretty house, pretty flowers and lots of foliage.
Pretty common room and dining area downstairs.
Decent price.
There was a desk in the bedroom.

Cons:
Dodgy and unattractive neighborhood (we thought we heard gunshots 3 times during the night).
Parking was on the street.
House was on top of a very, very steep hill.
Our room smelled very, very musty.
No AC (Seattle people will say you won’t need it, but some of us do).
The radiator was on in our room in July (they turned it off when we asked).
The porch had not been swept or cleaned in ages. Big dirt balls around the bench.
Shower was very dated.
Décor was outdated. There was a different pattern on the carpet, the bedspread, the linoleum and the bath tile. (I have stayed in very old houses in the states and in Europe, and most owners update their décor and plumbing.)
TV had very small screen.
The room was not cleaned during our two-day stay. (A tissue on the floor between the bed and the wall was still there the second day.)
We never saw the owner, which is not traditional. I prefer dealing with owners than teenage girls.
The breakfast was average for a B&B. Expected more from a place that brags on its food. And there was no protein served the days we had dessert breakfasts. (If you take the 8 a.m. breakfast seating, you will be asked to leave by 9 a.m. for the next seating.)
One of the girls who worked there picked her nose. A real deal breaker!

We had a wonderful trip to Seattle greatly due in part to our stay at the Chambered Nautilus. The room was cozy, the breakfast was delicious and the staff was friendly and helpful. We couldn't have asked for more!

Our oldest son and his wife moved to Seattle 10 years ago and on our first visit we stayed at the Chambered Nautilus. Our daughter-in-law knew of it because the Marine Biology Dept of the U of Washington (where she got her masters) houses visiting dignitaries there.

It's now been 10 years of regular visits (especially with 2 grandkids coming in the interim) and every visit has been wonderful. We've stayed in various rooms in the main house as well as the garden apartments and enjoyed both (personally, I like the Crow's Nest best). They have done a nice job of renovating baths over the years, but one thing that hasn't changed is the best breakfast in Seattle.

It also should be mentioned that in all those 10 years, we haven't experienced a single obnoxious guest... not even someone who talked a little too loud. I have a feeling the serenity of the house and gardens has a relaxing effect on everyone.

We had a wonderful stay over Memorial Day weekend at the Chambered Nautilus. It was a great location and we loved the Ravenna Suite. It was roomy (actually a one bedroom apartment) and we were so happy we could bring our dog. He felt pampered too! Breakfasts were delicious and we enjoyed meeting the other guests from the US, Europe and Australia. The big dining table makes you feel like family, or if you prefer to be in a smaller setting, that was available too. The hostess went out of her way to make our stay a very pleasurable experience.
