“Wonderful Slice of History”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 6, 2012

We very much enjoyed our stay at the Best Western Plus Pioneer Square Hotel. The accommodations were lovely and the staff were super awesome. If you want to experience a slice of Seattle history and yet feel pampered, I recommend this hotel.

This is an old hotel that has been redecorated and modernized. The accommodations are very comfortable and the rooms are well appointed. The breakfast room was a little small, but the selection of food and the service personnel made up for it. We stayed here the night before leaving on the a.m. Amtrak for San Diego . Will do so again.

A splendid and atmospheric hotel at the centre of almost everything. Convenient too! By the train stations and handy for going places (up and down the west coast or inland by train) and the airport by light rail, by ferry to the Islands, by foot to Pike's Place market, and by monorail to Seattle centre. The immediate surrounds are 1880s Gold Rush and very close is the International District wirh many many historIcal memories (don't miss the Panama Hotel).. The rooms are clean and spacious, the beds comfortable, the showers excellent and the breakfast (from 6:00 until 10:30) substantial. Woudn't fault. The staff members are helpful and polite.

Room Tip: Fourth Floor facing the street.

Just spent one night at this beautiful old hotel. The room was spacious with lovely details of days gone by. Staff were welcoming and the breakfast was adequent. Looking foward to returning in a month and to have more time to explore this up and coming area.

We enjoyed our stay at this property, nice decor the hotel was clean the staff were friendly. The location is good in that it is close to the city centre,Pioneer Square ,shops restaurants etc but bad as the highway runs right by the place and could be quite noisy we had a room on the fourth floor and the windows were closed and it didnt bother us but a room closer to the highway could be noisy for sure.We had a king bed and the room was fairly small but done right so it is quaint,I did peek into some other rooms that looked quite small.the breakfast area was nice and the food the usual contonental with some boiled eggs ,waffles.
I think this hotel offers good value
We walked around the block for a full hot breakfast and went to Planet Java recommended the the front desk and it was very good

I really wanted to give this hotel a superior rating,I really did, but in all honesty, our experience left us with such bad feelings that I will have to advise all travelers to miss this hotel if at all possible! It is a beautiful refurbished hotel that is 98 years old and an integral part of Seattle's history. It is close to almost everything you might want to see or do in Seattle. The breakfast is ok and most of the staff helpful. The BIG problem is the parking, or rather the lack of parking. The hotel has a section of curbing for loading and unloading. The section will accommodate two cars at a time. We were the third vehicle. The hotel has contracted with the Butler Garage two blocks uphill for hotel patron parking. We were issued a key card which we were told had to be returned at checkout or we would pay a $50.00 replacement fee. The key is used for entrance and egress from the parking garage. What we were NOT told is the fee to use the garage is $20.00/day payable upon check-in. The hotel did not bill us for parking and so we headed off to the garage to depart. Only to find out that we could either pay the garage $28.00 a day OR we could walk back to the hotel to pay our $20.00/day parking fees. The manager of the garage was extremely hostile and rude as she apparently thought we were trying to steal parking. When we returned to the hotel, the person who had accepted our key card was no longer on duty and his replacement seemed to share the opinion of the parking lot manager. Fortunately, my husband remembered the card number and upon paying the $20.00 per day, we were released to trudge back up the two blocks, get into our vehicle and depart. My husband has proclaimed this family will NEVER return to Seattle. This could get interesting as our daughter was being recruited by the University of Washington! Seriously though, do yourself a favor and skip this hotel!

We needed an overnight stop in Seattle before picking up an early Amtrak train to Portland. This was the most geographically convenient hotel and came with complimentary evaluations so we disregarded the odd comment about an edgy location and booked it. Turned out to be an excellent choice. The hotel is a historic building which means rather less than it might in Europe given that Seattle itself is only a century and a half old. However that isn't to be superior in any sense because the hotel does represent the history of the place and clearly so. It is a solid, well preserved, building with nicely maintained, comfortable, well appointed bedrooms which probably have good views although we were never there in daylight. The public areas are small, the reception staff efficient and helpful.
Breakfast was included in a breakfast room that doubled up as a cafe. The food was not the hotel's strongest point but in that it is no different to most US hotels offering complimentary breakfasts; the norm always appears a bit ersatz and plastic and this was no different.
The hotel location is in the old historic centre of Seattle and some distance from the modern commercial heart. The streets around have their share of apparent down and outs and there are a number of bohemian bars and cafes in the vicinity, some offering music. Although clearly a bit edgier than the more up-market city centre we never felt remotely threatened and indeed spent an amiable hour or so in a local bar listening to jazz.
All-in-all we had a very good experience at a reasonable price and I would certainly recommend this hotel, particularly for a stopover.
