The entire experience, from telephone contact with customer service to embarking and debarking, was pleasant. Staff people were friendly and helpful, bathrooms were clean and the ferry was timely.
Outside the Clipper company's control is going through customs at each end. The Seattle depot (?) is reached by an open ramp from the dock with partial roofing. It is exposed to the harsh evening weather which can be very windy and cold, and may include pouring rain. Although the US Customs officers were friendly, they do not have control of the environment either. We recommend that travelers carry at least a poncho or rain cape, a warm hat and a change of socks for the return to Seattle. If this were my first experience of entering the United States, I would be very disappointed.
