“Not what you imagine Korean food to be”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 17, 2013

This little Korean place at Pike Place Mkt serves up delicious small plates of modern Korean-Asian food. Tucked in by the Inn at the Market, what a surprise gem to find. Kobli beef grilled, big thick noodles, sauteed veggies all well-prepared each with their own unique flavor. Loved those rice noodles! The only thing we didn't like was their kimchi sampler (funny in that it's a Korean restaurant). Only about 16 seats at tables and maybe 6 at counter. You should try it.

“Fusion Korean”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 2, 2013

Fusion cuisine, especially Korean food suddenly seems to be the rage. Chan is obviously a product of that wave. If you're looking for real authentic Korean food, this is not it. But, even as a Korean who has eaten the gamut of real Korean street dishes to the more anglo-fied Kalbi and bulgogi, I found Chan to be enjoyable.

It definitely incorporates aspects of Korean cuisine and turns it into a more visually driven, and toned down version of Korean specialties. We tried an array of different dishes to share, including the bulgogi sliders, pork belly, ssam, ginger chicken wings, the beef short ribs (kalbi) and bibimbap - all were pretty good. The bibimbap is a perfect example of taking the traditional Korean dish and twisting the presentation by making it on a skillet (vs. the standard hot pot).

There is pretty good cocktail list incorporating again, some Asian fusion type cocktails alongside traditional Korean specialties such as maggolli (the traditional rice wine). Prices for the cocktails were quite reasonable.

The space is small, and as we had our young son with us, we opted to dine early at 5 p.m. but within 30 minutes the place was packed. Given the "hip" vibe and pike place location, we were quite surprised to see the number of families who came in to eat with several young children. There were also a number of young couples or party groups. All in all, the place seemed to attract a wide range of diners.

“Yummy Korean Food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 21, 2013

We stopped here for a couple small bites and some rice beer. We returned the next day. It was delicious! The beef sliders and ribs were the best. Recommend happy hour and the soju flights!

“Terrific food!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 18, 2013

We stayed at inn at the market, and chan is in the hotel. The waiter picked out a tasting menu for us. It was great. Spicy pork sliders, braised beef short ribs, the pork+kimchi fish, the wings, bibimbap all outstanding. We still talk about it weeks later

“Never would have thought...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 7, 2013

...a Korean restaurant would have such amazing food! We found Chan's through a Savor Seattle gourmet tour and am quite glad we did since we never would have gone to this place otherwise. A sample of the spicy pork sliders (full serving $9) and braised short rib (full serving $13) were part of the tour and, oh my, talk about delicious! The pork was tangy with just enough spice to make it a bit hot, but not overly so. The short rib pulled apart easily with chopsticks and was incredibly tasty!

Chan's is down the alley to your right as you're walking down the hill toward the "Public Market" sign. The dining area is small, as can be seen in my photo, but Chan's is well worth the stop. Cha:n is on facebook too.
