“Great views...friendly staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 16, 2013

I loved this place. A step back in time to have a 'real' elevator operator. To make it even better she was fun and friendly. Also, the elevator itself was beautiful. The docent at top floor was also very informative and friendly. Set the atmoshphere for all the visitors and we exchanged greetings and comments.
At $6 this is a great bargain instead of the $14 at the space needle!

“Great view of the city”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 16, 2013

My friend and I were traveling cheap, so instead of shelling out $20 to go to the top of the Space Needle, we decided to head over to Smith Tower.

The building is very distinctive, so it wasn't hard to find. Luckily we got there early in the afternoon, so even though the observation deck was closing early for a private function, we still got to go up. (Check the online calendar before you go.) The elevator ride to the top is a little unnerving, as the old-fashioned elevator doors let you see all 34 floors whizzing past as you make your way to the top. However, the views are definitely worth it. The day was super clear, so we could see Mount Ranier on one side, the Olympics on another, and the Seattle skyline on a third. You can even see the Space Needle if you stand in just the right spot!

“Worth a groupon.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 15, 2013

We had groupon discount tickets, and it was worth it. I'm not sure if non-Seattle residents would enjoy seeing the panorama quite as much, since most of our time was spent enjoying the different perspective on places we visit so frequently.

“A little-known gem.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2013

The Smith Tower is a little over a hundred years old, and was the tallest building on the west coast until 1962, when The Space Needle was built. On the 35th floor observation level is a beautiful "Chinese Room", a gift from the Empress of China to the builder of Smith Tower. There is a narrow, exterior observation deck around the perimeter. Views are gorgeous, but the crowds are sparse - I much prefer it over the touristy Space Needle. Great architecture - include elevators that still have operators - add to the experience.

“Nice view”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 13, 2013

This building was Seattle's first skyscraper and is a lovely old building. You can get some nice photos from up here. It is right neat the Underground Tour so if you are in that area it is worthwile to go up. The brass elevators are beautiful.
