Owner description: The Chinese Room & Observation Deck at Smith Tower, once the tallest building on the West Coast, have offered Seattle's best views to the public for 100 years. Our elevator operators will whisk you in an old-fashioned copper and brass elevator car to the 35th floor where you'll step into the past as you explore the historic Chinese Room. Engross yourself in the newspaper headlines of 1910 when Smith Tower was just a lofty idea, or soak up the good luck of the room by taking a seat in the Wishing Chair. Guests are welcome to enjoy the sights of Seattle from inside - just in case you arrived on one of our famous Seattle rainy days - or outside on the Observation Deck that provides 360° views of the city. From every angle you'll see the best of Seattle, including the Space Needle, Great Wheel, Columbia Center, sports stadiums, Pioneer Square, and the International District, as well as our natural surroundings, including Mount Rainier, the Cascade Mountains, the Olympic Mountains, and Puget Sound. Ticket sales close 20 minutes prior to posted closing time.

You get a really amazing view of the city here and this was my second visit. The upper floor room has a stunning carved wooden ceiling and other oriental art features

“used to be a good place to visit when the Chinese room was open.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 13, 2012

Neighborhood is sketchy and the building has a lot of vacantcies last time I went. The Chinese room does not exist and there is no opportunity to see the best parts of the building...

“Good view on a historic building”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 30, 2012

Take note that this historic building was built in 1914 and is the oldest skyscraper in the city. It was the tallest building west of the Mississippi until 1931 and remained the tallest building on the West Coast until the Space Needle was built in 1962. The views from the observation deck are great of course and you can see the Space Needle all the way at the end of an avenue which makes for a great photo. Well worth visiting. As an interesting fact, after the restoration in the early 1990s, workers removed the water tank in the top of the tower. The resulting space along with a former maintenance man's apartment became a three-story penthouse, the only residence in the building.

3 times cheaper than Seattle Center - great view of the down town, sports arenas plus inimitable historic charm!
