Fuji bakery makes pastries like they do in Europe. The fillings are modest and everything has a *mild* sweetness. So, I'd expect many people won't like this place since most Americans are used to sugar-laden, giant, overstuffed things.
I've been a dozen times by now and am always impressed by the texture, flavors and prices. (For example, on one visit, I got a milk stick, a brioche and a pear "danish" for $5.50.)
The milk stick (long pastry stick with a thin stripe of cream inside) was mild and satisfying--would be nice with coffee or cocoa. The pear "danish" was PERFECT--tender with great flavors. The brioche was slightly dry, but I ate it the next day so may not have stored it well overnight. (Next time, I'll go earlier in the day and get one of their savory items too.) There are SO many delicious items, I could go on and on!
I've tried three bakeries in the International District and this one is the BEST by far. Gracious service, delicious food and great prices. Thankfully, it's a 20 minute drive from my house, otherwise I'd be there too often!
