“Comfortable Seattle Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 28, 2013

Nice and spacious room with a Queen Bed, tea and coffee facilities and large bathroom. Great location, amongst some great restaurants that Queen Anne has to offer. Within walking distance to the monorail and even the city centre, taking about half an hour to walk to Pike Place Markets.
The front desk staff were friendly and helpful, storing my luggage until my room was ready as I had arrived very early and pointed me in the right directions for getting around town. Housekeeping was great and restocked my amenities and tidied my room whilst I was out. No air-conditioning in the room but a ceiling fan was fine for the beautiful weather in Seattle at the time of my stay. I really enjoyed my stay at the Mediterranean and would recommend it to anyone wanting a comfortable and affordable stay in Seattle!

First the good points : Frontdesk staff - amiable, room was clean, good bathroom and kitchen amenities - coffee maker with complimentary Starbucks coffee and popcorn, fridge, microwave. Room and bathroom size - adequate with desk and chair and HDTV. Good neighbourhood location - close to Seattle Centre, good restaurants and the monorail. Great roofdeck with a wonderful view of Puget Sound. Computers on the mainfloor for guest use.

Now the negatives : We booked on Hotwire and thought we had a great deal US$100/night - then we found out that it was for a double bed and with no air-condition - US$20/night to upgrade to a Queen and even more if we wanted 2 beds and air-condition!! We chose to upgrade to a Queen and as another reviewer noted, it was a sub-sized Queen -a bit larger than a double but not a Queen, no matter what the front staff say.

Wireless was US$5 a night - in this day and age, this is a service I cannot understand that hotels charge for...

You get what you pay for....we were allocated a room on the 2nd floor facing Queen Anne Ave. - given the absence of air-condition and the stuffiness of the room with windows closed, we opened the windows. Traffic noise - buses, cars, pedestrians talking, partygoers shouting, cabs dropping passengers off, trucks deliveries - ALL can be heard loud and clear. Even with the windows shut and ear plugs, you can still hear noise from outside. Stay away from rooms on low floors facing this noisy street.

Management I am sure are aware of this and should at least make the low floor rooms air-conditioned to provide some comfort to the guests. Or in the least, provide complimentary WiFi to make up for the noise. Truth be told, I would not stay in these rooms even with free WiFi. We did ask for a room change the second night but it was too complicated and chose to spend a good day out instead of waiting....

There are hotels for similar prices that provide more sound sleep and rest. I observe that the better reviews are from those who stayed on the higher floors and/or with air-condition. Good for them!

Room Tip: Avoid low floor rooms facing Queen Anne at all cost!

Enjoyed the area and thought the room was nice for an older hotel. Good housekeeping and recently upgraded. The problem we had checking in was with Denise, the clerk. We arrived a bit early and decided to wait for a room to become available before heading downtown. After giving our name and waiting in the lobby for 45 minutes we noticed others walking in and getting checked in right away. Of course I made my frustration known and was given a room right away by a different clerk. Unbelievably rude. Unfortunate actions by clerks such as her put a damper on an otherwise nicely run hotel.

I've stayed here several times and enjoyed myself each time.

Hotel is in a great location and within walking distance to a lot of stuff.

Rooftop access gives you great views of the city and on clear days you can see the mountains as well.

Not all rooms have AC but thats not enough to really complain about.

I really wanted to like this hotel. I really did. At $120 a night, it would have been perfect. But at an average of $175, I found that it did not measure up to expectations. My stay was 7 nights, and I was lucky to get an air conditioned room on the 6th floor. My room was roughly 13 x 18, or less than 240 square feet, bathroom included. Many rooms are not air conditioned, and during the summer, the room can get very warm.

The hotel does have parking and an in-house Starbucks. Parking in Lower Queen Anne is a pain, so adequate hotel parking was great. There is a fitness room with a weight machine and a pair of both ellipticals and running machines. There is no in house cafe or dining room for standard meals. There are multiple good restaurants close by.

I booked a queen bed, but it sure felt like a full. We were quite cramped. There was a chair and table next to the bed, but there really was not room for both. The bathroom features a toilet that was very, very low. Not for older people that do not get up or down easily. There was also very little storage space for toiletry items. Just a small shelf. The shower was adequate, but water pressure is very low. Overall, the bathroom is workable for one, not two people.

The staff were very nice. Housekeeping did an adequate, but not great job of cleaning the room. Several times they left only a coffee cup or glass, and I had to call the front desk to request that they drop off one more. Some of the surfaces showed water marks or other signs that they had not been cleaned.

Overall, the Mediterranean Inn was a bit below average both in size and the resulting room comfort. The lack of a cafe and slightly spotty housekeeping were noticeable.

Room Tip: Upper floors, ask for a/c.

Spacious rooms with all the regular amenities plus complimentary microwave popcorn -- how Seattle! Staff helpful with information on transportation, local eateries, grocery stores. The surprise gem is the rooftop terrace where guests are encouraged to take a glass of wine (or the entire bottle) to sip while enjoying amazing views of the Space Needle, downtown Seattle and Elliott Bay. Hotel is walking distance to Seattle Center, Space Needle, Seattle Repertory Theatre and there are multiple bus lines one block from the hotel to get downtown.

The staff was very friendly and the hotel overall was very clean, as well as, our roon. The room was a bit small, but it was only two of us and for a few days so it was fine. Luckily we had an ac in our room because we had read a review about no ac in the rooms. The elevators were a bit slow so we took the stairs a lot. The location is not right in downtown Seattle, but is in the lower Queen Anne area, which is fine but a lot of walking. Overall a good stay and hotel for the price.
